Job Description

Pay Rate: $21.00/hr - $22.00/hr

The Material Handler is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory control and the safe handling, movement, storage, and staging of materials within the warehouse and manufacturing environment. With a customer-centric mindset, this role understands that accurate material handling, careful loading, and quality crate building directly support customer satisfaction, product integrity, and on-time delivery. The Material Handler works in an interconnected and collaborative manner with production, materials, and shipping teams and supports continuous improvement by following standard work, identifying issues, and promoting safe and efficient operations.

  • Safely operate forklifts and other motorized material-handling equipment in accordance with company policies and training.
  • Perform accurate order picking, staging, loading, and unloading of materials for production and shipment.
  • Ensure proper placement, storage, and rotation of inventory to maintain inventory accuracy and material integrity.
  • Build quality crates and carefully load materials to prevent damage during storage and transportation.
  • Stage materials in preparation for shipment and production use.
  • Unload and load trailers and flatbeds using appropriate equipment and safe work practices.
  • Set up materials and racks to support production needs.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and safety inspections on forklifts and material-handling equipment.
  • Change batteries and gas tanks on forklifts and report equipment maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Follow established housekeeping and cleanup standards.
  • Identify material, equipment, or safety issues and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Assist with training and supporting co-workers as assigned.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, efficiency, and standard work.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and a respectful workplace.
  • Perform other job-related duties consistent with training, experience, and business needs, in compliance with applicable labor and safety laws.

Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.

    • High school diploma or GED preferred.

    • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in manufacturing, distribution, materials handling, or inventory control required.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Ability to obtain and maintain company-issued motorized equipment certification.

    Language Skills

    • Ability to read, understand, and communicate work-related information in English as required for safety, quality, and job performance. Reasonable accommodations may be considered consistent with business necessity.

    Mathematical Skills

    • Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.

    Reasoning Ability

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.

    • Ability to identify routine problems and communicate issues to appropriate personnel.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to work safely and follow established safety procedures at all times.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. The employee may be required to lift or move materials up to 50 pounds, with heavier loads handled using mechanical assistance or team lifts. Specific vision abilities include close-up, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. These physical demands are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with applicable law.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment is primarily a manufacturing and warehouse setting with exposure to moving mechanical parts, forklifts, heavy pallets, airborne dust, powders, fumes, variable temperatures, and moderate to loud noise levels. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed shoes, and other protective gear, is required based on work area and task.
