We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.
- Build and run core services for Rates trade booking and trade storage, with a design that can extend across broader FICC products. Own end-to-end delivery for your services: technical design, hands-on development (60–70%), CI/CD, production readiness, and operational support (“you build it, you run it”).
- Engineer for high availability, strong data consistency, and high throughput, including resilience patterns, capacity planning, and performance tuning.Design and implement service interfaces using gRPC/Protobuf and streaming patterns (e.g., HTTP SSE) to integrate with upstream/downstream platforms.
- Ensure robust auditability and controls: versioning of trade changes, traceability, access controls, data retention, and secure-by-design engineering. Drive a step-change in engineering culture: raise standards through design/code reviews, automation, observability, and incident learning, mentoring engineers through practical examples. Partner with Product Owners/BAs and stakeholders to shape requirements into clear user stories and deliver iteratively with predictable outcomes. Build and maintain lightweight UIs where needed to support trade enquiry, operational workflows, and exception handling.
- Strong experience as a senior Java backend engineer (microservices), with proven ownership of production systems. Solid understanding of distributed systems: concurrency, idempotency, failure handling, consistency models, and resiliency patterns.Hands-on experience designing APIs and integrations using gRPC and Protobuf; familiarity with streaming/real-time update patterns (e.g., SSE).
- Strong PostgreSQL skills (data modelling, indexing, performance tuning) and experience building consistent, auditable transactional stores. DevOps/SRE mindset: CI/CD pipelines, automated quality gates, monitoring/alerting, and operational tooling (e.g., Grafana/Prometheus/ELK).
- Secure engineering practices: vulnerability management, secrets handling, access control, audit logging, and compliance-aware delivery.Domain knowledge of trade lifecycle and STP, ideally in Rates (broader FICC exposure a plus). Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and influencing engineering culture without formal line management.
To be successful, you will:
- 7+ years of IT experience in Java development as an Individual contributor as well as mentor. Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, presentation and analytical skills
- Experience in micro services architecture, Elasticsearch and ELK. Experience in Monitoring tools such as Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus
- Exposure to Message driven architectures working on JMS, IBM MQ / Artemis / Solace etc. Hands-on experience with DevOps, CI/CD and Cyber Security tools ex. Teamcity /Jenkins / JIRA/ Confluence / NexusIQ / CheckMarx
- Hands-on experience with RDBMS (e.g. Oracle) or NOSQL DBs (e.g. MongoDB). In-depth knowledge of Trade Life cycle & Straight Through Processing (STP)
- Exposure to Fixed Income Currency and Commodities products. High Frequency and Low latency coding, Rust, Go, Python
