Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level AS400 RPG Developer with Java experience to develop, maintain, and enhance core business applications on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform while leveraging Java for modern API integrations, web services, and cross-platform solutions.
The environment includes a mature legacy business system consisting of RPG IV, RPG ILE, and RPG III applications, requiring both strong maintenance capabilities and a practical approach to modernization.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy business applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform using RPG IV, RPGLE, free-form RPG, RPG III, and Control Language (CL/CLLE).
- Java Integration: Develop and maintain Java applications, utility modules, and connectors that integrate legacy AS/400 systems with modern enterprise platforms.
- Database Management: Work with IBM RUNQRY and DB2/400 databases; experience with embedded SQL (SQLRPGLE) is preferred.
- System Modernization: Design and implement RESTful APIs and SOAP web services, utilizing the Integrated File System (IFS) to facilitate data exchange with external systems.
- Production Support: Troubleshoot application issues, optimize legacy code, and improve system performance and reliability.
- Collaboration: Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Documentation and Standards: Maintain technical documentation, participate in code reviews, and adhere to security and compliance standards.
Required Skills And Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 3-6 years of hands-on experience developing applications using RPGLE, free-form RPG, RPG III, CLLE, CL, and DB2/400.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional Java development experience, including core Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Experience with JSON, SOAP, XML, and web service integrations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of APIs, web services, and file transfers using the Integrated File System (IFS).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to understand and reverse-engineer undocumented legacy RPG applications.
