How You Will Contribute

In this position, you will be working with our Clinical Research team. For more information, please visit ITC I Red Nucleus.

Job Overview

iTakeControl is a clinical trial platform supporting live studies within a validated, GxP-compliant environment. We are bringing the platform fully in-house and building the team that will own and grow it.

We are looking for a strong Mobile Developer to own and advance the platform’s mobile application as a hands-on, code-first contributor. The app is a cross-platform React Native client (iOS and Android) used by clinical trial participants to complete trainings, assessments, surveys, video capture and other study activities — often handling sensitive health data on the device. Working under the technical direction of the Technical Lead, you will write production-quality mobile code, own the build-and-release pipeline to the app stores, and help keep a live regulated mobile experience stable, secure, and reliable.

The mobile app is one of the primary ways participants take part in their studies, so its reliability, security, and careful release management matter a great deal. The role begins by building a deep working understanding of the existing app during the handover from the outgoing vendor, then moves into ongoing feature development, maintenance, and release ownership within the established compliance framework.

The role works with US-based stakeholders and requires regular overlap with US hours, particularly around releases.

What You’ll Own

  • Hands-on mobile delivery — building and maintaining features in the React Native app across both iOS and Android to a production-quality standard
  • Build and release ownership — owning the app’s build, signing, and distribution pipeline to the App Store and Google Play, including beta distribution channels
  • On-device data security — handling sensitive health data safely on the device: secure storage, secrets, transport security, and platform permissions
  • Mobile stability and quality — troubleshooting crashes and production issues, managing performance and device/OS fragmentation, and contributing to the long-term technical health of the app
  • Compliance-aware development — building within the validated environment, preserving the auditability and data-integrity expectations the platform requires
  • Codebase fluency — building a deep working understanding of the existing app during the vendor handover and keeping documentation current for the areas you own
  • Collaboration — participating in code reviews and design discussions, working closely with backend engineers on API contracts, and partnering with QA on mobile test coverage

What We’re Looking For

This is a hands-on engineering role. We are looking for proven, production mobile capability across the areas below — what you can do matters more than titles held.

Core Engineering Skills (must-have)

  • React Native in production — strong, current, hands-on experience shipping real cross-platform apps to the App Store and Google Play
  • Both platforms — practical experience with the iOS and Android specifics that React Native sits on top of: native build configuration, signing, permissions, and platform differences
  • Advanced JavaScript / TypeScript — and a strong grasp of React patterns (Hooks, Context, component composition) and mobile state management
  • Asynchronous and offline-aware logic — correct handling of network calls, retries, background work, and intermittent connectivity on mobile
  • On-device security — secure storage of sensitive data and secrets, transport security, and safe handling of platform permissions
  • App store release process — hands-on experience with build automation, code signing, versioning, and submitting/releasing through the iOS and Android store pipelines
  • Mobile debugging and performance — diagnosing crashes, profiling, and managing performance across a range of devices and OS versions
  • API integration — consuming RESTful and/or real-time APIs and collaborating with backend engineers on contracts
  • Version control and collaboration — strong Git workflows and a habit of writing reviewable, well-documented code

Delivery and Quality Mindset

  • Writes production-quality mobile code daily and takes ownership of it through to the stores
  • Treats release as part of the job: careful with signing, versioning, staged rollouts, and rollback
  • Plans realistically and keeps the team informed on progress, risks, and trade-offs
  • Brings sound engineering judgement to a live, regulated platform, valuing well-tested, reliable releases and careful handling of participant data
  • Comfortable owning a critical, hard-to-backfill surface — documents well so the app is not a single point of failure
  • Collaborates well with backend, QA, and product, and is willing to support and mentor less experienced team members

Preferred Qualifications

  • Build automation tooling — experience with Fastlane or equivalent for CI-driven mobile builds and store distribution
  • Beta distribution — experience with TestFlight, Firebase App Distribution, or equivalent
  • Remote configuration / feature flags — experience with remote config or feature-flagging on mobile
  • Video / real-time features — experience integrating video calling, WebRTC, or other real-time features into a mobile app
  • Native modules — experience writing or integrating native (Swift/Kotlin/Objective-C/Java) modules where React Native needs to reach the platform
  • Mobile CI/CD — experience with GitLab CI or equivalent pipelines for mobile, and code-quality scanning
  • Regulated or healthcare environment — experience working within HIPAA, GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, or equivalent frameworks
  • Vendor takeover / legacy stabilisation — experience joining an existing app from an external vendor or stabilising a legacy mobile codebase
  • AI-assisted development — practical, transparent use of AI tooling to improve delivery

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 6+ years of hands-on mobile development, with strong, current, production React Native experience across iOS and Android
  • A track record of apps actually shipped to and maintained on the App Store and Google Play
  • Proven track record of independently delivering production mobile features end to end, including their test coverage
  • Experience operating a live, customer-facing app where crashes and bad releases have real consequences
  • Experience working within regulated or validated software environments preferred
  • Experience in Life Sciences, Clinical Trials, Healthcare IT, or Medical Devices a plus

*This job description captures the essential functions of this role as of July 2026. Management reserves the right to modify it as the platform and team evolve.*
