JOB DESCRIPTION
ABOUT US
- UZ Leuven is a university hospital where patients can count on specialised care and innovative treatments, combined with human attention and respect for each person.
FUNCTION
- IT is of strategic importance within Client. We are highly computerized for both administrative and medical applications. You will be employed within the IT department in a team of 30 developers that maintains the non-medical hospital applications (HR, Finance, Procurement and Inventory within the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP system).
- To further develop our mobile strategy, we are looking for a driven Mobile Developer. Today our focus is 100% on Android (Kotlin), but we are looking for someone who looks ahead. In time, other platforms (iOS, Cross-platform) may also become relevant within our hospital environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In this position, you will form the bridge between our complex ERP backend and the end user on the shop floor. You build intuitive, high-performance mobile apps that make the work of thousands of hospital employees more efficient.
- Android Development: You start by developing and maintaining native Android applications written in Kotlin, using the Android Jetpack ecosystem.
- Future-proof Mindset: You closely follow the trends in the mobile world. If the strategy eventually shifts to other platforms (such as iOS or Cross-platform frameworks), you are willing to delve into this and evolve with it.
- Innovation & Architecture: You translate functional needs into technically advanced solutions. You think along about architecture (MVVM, Clean Architecture), security and UX/UI.
- Integration & Monitoring: You link the apps to our backend systems and use Firebase for monitoring (Crashlytics), analytics and messaging (Cloud Messaging).
- End-to-End Responsibility: Over time, you'll execute projects from A to Z, from analysis and development to release and user guidance
WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR THAT?
- You have a master's degree in IT or are equivalent through experience. You are a specialist in Android, but you have a broad interest in the entire mobile landscape.
YOUR TECH STACK & SKILLS:
- Kotlin & Core: You have in-depth knowledge of Kotlin (including Coroutines & Flow) and the Android SDK.
- Modern UI: You have experience with (or a strong interest in) Jetpack Compose for building modern interfaces.
- Architecture: You build scalable apps according to principles such as MVVM, Clean Architecture and Dependency Injection (e.g. Koin).
- Firebase: You have experience with Firebase services such as Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Analytics and Firestore.
- Networking: You are familiar with REST APIs (using e.g. Retrofit and/or OkHttp, Ktor client is a plus) and local data storage (e.g. Room).
YOUR MINDSET & BROADER KNOWLEDGE:
- FLEXIBILITY: You are now an Android expert, but are open to expanding your skills to iOS (Swift) or Cross-platform (e.g. Flutter/React Native/KMP) in the long term if the projects require it.
- BACKEND READINESS: You don't shy away from getting to know our backend environment (PeopleSoft tools, SQL Server) as well.
- TEAM PLAYER: Knowledge sharing and eagerness to learn are right up your alley. ● Communication: You are proficient in both Dutch and English.
