Role: MuleSoft Developer
Location/Remote: Remote
Duration: Multi-year initiative, ongoing
Engagement Structure:
- Core need: MuleSoft - this is the primary driver for the role.
- Hours: The MuleSoft work alone is expected to be sporadic (not a steady weekly load). To offer a more consistent, attractive engagement, the client is pairing it with SAP ECC support to bring total hours to ~20/week. Hours are expected to grow as the client moves from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA in 2030.
- Engagement type: Part-time initially, side-job friendly - candidates currently employed full-time with bandwidth on the side are welcome to apply.
- Growth potential: This role is expected to scale toward full-time as the client moves into the active phase of standing up SAP S/4HANA. We're looking for someone senior enough to grow with the engagement, not just fill the part-time hours today.
Position Overview:
Our client needs a hands-on consultant who is strong in both MuleSoft and SAP ECC 6.0 to support integration work on an ongoing, as-needed basis. MuleSoft is the primary driver for the role, but because the MuleSoft workload alone doesn't fill a full week, SAP ECC support is required to round out the ~20 hrs/week. Both skill sets are required - this is not a project management or oversight role; the consultant will be actively building, integrating, and troubleshooting.
This individual will serve as a trusted technical resource, primarily focused on MuleSoft integration work, with SAP ECC support filling out the remaining hours. Down the line, as the client moves into standing up SAP S/4HANA, this could expand into a larger, more full-time engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain MuleSoft integrations between SAP and third-party applications.
- Configure and support APIs, RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs, web services, and MuleSoft-based middleware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve MuleSoft integration issues as they arise (work is sporadic/on-demand).
- Provide hands-on SAP ECC 6.0 development, enhancements, customizations, and troubleshooting to round out weekly hours.
- Design scalable integration architectures to support future business growth.
- Develop and support secure data exchanges between SAP and external systems.
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather requirements and implement solutions.
- Create technical specifications and integration documentation as needed.
- Support ongoing production issues and enhancement requests.
- As the engagement grows, help support the eventual migration from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong, hands-on MuleSoft experience - required.
- SAP ECC 6.0 experience - required (this is what allows the role to fill the full ~20 hrs/week; candidates with MuleSoft only and no SAP background will not be a fit for this particular engagement).
- Experience with APIs, RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs, SOAP/REST services, and middleware technologies.
- Ability to work independently as a senior-level consultant.
- Comfortable with sporadic/variable weekly workload on the MuleSoft side.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications (nice-to-have, not required):
- MuleSoft certification.
- SAP S/4HANA implementation or migration experience - a plus, not required today, but valuable as the client will eventually move into an S/4HANA build-out.
- SAP BTP or SAP CPI experience.
- Experience in large enterprise environments with complex integration requirements.
