Job Title: Network Automation Engineer

Role Summary:
We are seeking an Automation Engineer to join a co-development team delivering automated testing and configuration workflows for a multi-data-center Secure DMZ program. This role focuses on developing automation code for network device configuration use cases within a Cisco Modeling Labs (CML) environment, delivered through a Cisco Network as Code (NaC) / GitLab CI/CD pipeline. This is a strong fit for an engineer with solid Python and network automation fundamentals looking to grow technical depth on a modern automation-factory delivery model, working closely with a Senior Automation Engineer and client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop automation code to support network device configuration use cases as prioritized in the sprint backlog
- Build and maintain test automation components: input mechanisms, environment build/baseline workflows, and pre-/post-test execution scripts
- Contribute to Cisco NaC-based automation workflows and support GitLab CI/CD pipeline runs (validate ? plan ? apply)
- Use the Cisco Modeling Labs (CML) environment to build, test, and validate automation against simulated network topologies before promotion
- Write automated tests (unit and integration level) to validate configuration and infrastructure automation workflows
- Participate in daily standups, remote pair-programming sessions, and bi-weekly sprint planning and demonstrations
- Document automation workflows, inputs, outputs, and tool integrations for each use case delivered
- Contribute to as-built documentation and README files within Git repositories
- Support reporting and logging mechanisms that surface test execution status to stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in network automation, network engineering, or related infrastructure/software development role
- Working proficiency in Python, including scripting and basic test development
- Familiarity with REST APIs and their use in automating network device configuration
- Basic understanding of Git-based source control and CI/CD concepts
- Foundational networking knowledge (routing/switching, firewalls) sufficient to understand DMZ/perimeter architectures
- Willingness to learn and work within a Cisco NaC / GitLab pipeline delivery model
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to Cisco Modeling Labs (CML), GNS3, EVE-NG, or other network simulation tooling
- Exposure to Palo Alto or other firewall platforms
- Exposure to Ansible or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Experience with ServiceNow automation, particularly in the context of change management or network automation integration
- Prior experience working in an Agile/Scrum delivery team
- Associate-level Cisco certification (CCNA) or equivalent
