Job Title: Network Engineer (Level 1)
Location: Chesapeake, VA - 23320 (
Onsite)
Duration: 6 months contract (could extend or go perm for the right person)
Experience: 2+ Years
Certs / Degree: CCNA
Top Must Have's:
Bring on someone to handle NETWORK TICKETS
NE 1 must have understanding of networking
Network segmentation layer 2;
Recent CCNA, 1-2 years experience learn environment
Very energetic opportunity to learn and grow
Some level of training
Understanding where issue how to trace path add security policy or rule
Create firewall rules

STRONG CISCO ROUTE/SWITCHING
MUST UNDERSTAND OSPF, BGP (DON'T NEED ISP LEVEL, BUT MUST HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE
PALO MUST BE ABLE TO CREATE FIREWALL ROLES BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING
MUST UNDERSTAND CISCO WIFI (CONTROLLER BASED WIFI AND ICE)
EXPERIENCE IS MOST IMPORTANT!!
Job Summary:
Should have a solid understanding of L2 switching (i.e. fully understand VLANs, tagging, trunking, AAA, Spanning Tree, etc.) and a foundational knowledge of L3 networking, including subnetting (IPv4 public vs private class A, B, & C subnets), familiarity with routing protocols like OSPF and EIGRP, a basic grasp of Wi-Fi, and a strong understanding of switch installation best practices (i.e. proper network cabling, power considerations, etc).
Core Focus: Solid understanding of Layer 2, foundational Layer 3, and introductory Wi-Fi concepts.
Technical Skills:
Layer 2 (Switching):
o VLAN creation, tagging, and trunking
o Port security and access control
o Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) fundamentals (PVST+, RSTP)
o 802.1X basics and AAA authentication concepts
o MAC address tables and ARP understanding
Layer 3 (Basic Networking):
o IPv4 addressing and subnetting (Class A/B/C, private vs public)
o Default gateways and static routing
o Intro to routing protocols (basic OSPF and EIGRP concepts)
Wi-Fi (Introductory Level):
o Understanding SSIDs, channels, and basic RF concepts
o Wi-Fi standards overview (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax)
o Basic AP setup and controller awareness
o Wi-Fi troubleshooting basics (signal strength, interference)
Installation & Best Practices:
o Switch installation, racking, and cabling standards
o Power and grounding considerations (PoE, UPS)
o Network documentation and labeling
Tools & Soft Skills:
o Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.)
o Wireshark basics for packet inspection
o Clear communication and adherence to change management procedures
