We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer for an immediate part-time consulting engagement (approximately 30 hours per week) supporting a large enterprise Cisco switch refresh project. This is a fully onsite role in New Jersey and requires a hands-on engineer who is comfortable working both in the data center and on the network infrastructure itself.
Responsibilities
- Perform Cisco switch refresh activities in a Catalyst (IOS/IOS-XE) environment
- Rack, stack, cable, stage, and deploy network equipment
- Build and validate switch configurations
- Execute network cutovers and migrations
- Connect switches to core infrastructure and validate trunking and port-channel configurations
- Perform cable moves, labeling, and documentation updates
- Troubleshoot migration issues, including STP, duplex/speed mismatches, connectivity, and configuration errors
- Support post-migration testing and remediation efforts
Required Experience
- Prior hands-on Cisco switch refresh or network migration experience
- Strong knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches, IOS, and IOS-XE
- Experience with VLANs, trunking, STP, EtherChannel/Port-Channels, and Layer 2 networking
- Comfortable performing physical infrastructure work, including rack/stack and cabling
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in an onsite environment
