Job Overview Senior OpenEdge ABL Developer – Contract (ending December 31 2026).
You will be working on a flexible hybrid schedule as part of Fidelity’s dynamic working arrangement. The work location for this role is 483 Bay Street in Toronto until approximately late 2026, when the work location will change to the new Mississauga office at 3 Robert Speck Parkway.
How You’ll Make An Impact Responsible for understanding complex business problems and translating technical knowledge into practical, implementable solutions that drive high‑impact business value.
Responsibilities
Define and implement technical strategies and architecture for software development projects.
Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
Ensure adherence to best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the development lifecycle (SDLC).
Design, develop, test, and maintain system solutions.
Produce and maintain thorough technical and functional documentation.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance software development processes and capabilities.
Qualifications
University Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent working experience.
7+ years of Progress OpenEdge experience within the financial services industry.
Strong technical expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies.
Working knowledge of OpenEdge ABL (Progress 4GL) and OOP.
Expertise in RDBMS (Relational Database Management System).
Strong understanding of RDSP and RESP, including eligibility, contributions, and government grants and bonds.
Skills
Deep understanding and proficiency in software development and frameworks relevant to the financial services industry.
Proven experience in developing and integrating APIs for data exchange using RESTful services.
Exposure to API is beneficial.
In‑depth knowledge of mutual fund and business processes.
Experience with government‑registered plans and relevant financial regulations.
Strong decision‑making skills and ability to resolve complex software challenges.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts.
Technical writing and well‑organized documentation skills.
Work Authorization Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.
Compensation Flexible, hourly compensation model ranging from $54 to $83, based on experience and qualifications. Market‑aligned rates and provincial pay transparency requirements are respected.
