Overview
Paediatric training in Tasmania offers a wealth of paediatric specialty and sub‑specialty experiences, working with a large supportive and expanding team, and opportunities to explore the beautiful state of Lutruwita through work‑life balance. The statewide program provides broad exposure to general paediatrics and subspecialities under close consultant supervision. Positions are available for first‑year trainees and more experienced trainees preparing for college exams. Supervision is provided by consultant paediatricians and trainee mentorship is available through a large and growing advanced training program within Tasmania.
Positions Available
General Paediatric Registrar
There are multiple general paediatric registrar positions available to both Basic and Advanced trainees in General Paediatrics, as well as for doctors seeking immersive exposure to general paediatrics for other specialities such as general practice. The role primarily involves the care of children through in‑patient care and outpatient services.

Basic Training Position
A successful applicant to the basic training position would be granted a 3‑year position, with rotations that include a combination of the above services. Tasmanian Paediatric Training Program has long‑standing relationships with Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, which may offer tertiary training spots in the third year.
‘Streamed’ positions are available which guarantee all of the required training rotations within three years. In most cases, all basic trainees can complete their basic training needs within the three years through a combination of rotations within Tasmania and at tertiary sites.

Adjustments to this program may be made on request on an individual basis within the capacity of the RHH Program. Progression each year is reviewed based on performance, and continued funding of all posts.
Salary
$134,930 per annum
Salary is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work, 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata) commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028. In some cases, a 24‑month contract may be negotiated at employment.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Duties
The Registrar is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the hospital and provides after‑hours emergency cover at the hospital.
