We are looking for a PHP Software Developer (Symfony) to join us. If you enjoy modern, well-architected PHP, take pride in clean domain models and well-designed APIs, and want the applications you build to have a tangible impact, this role is for you.

A little more about your role...

You will work on a portfolio of data-intensive web applications, both enhancing established systems and building new ones, sometimes within a team and sometimes leading smaller projects yourself.

Enterprise-grade bespoke applications for real-time data collection, processing, ratification and reporting across national and international air quality and energy management systems, built by our Digital Services team from the ground up.

Industry-leading emergency response solutions for ChemicalEmergencies.Our software helps emergency responders quicklyidentifythe correct procedure when an incident involves hazardous materials, supporting the emergency services in saving lives 24/7/365.

Our ideal candidate relishes complex problems, writes maintainable code, organises their work well, and contributes energy and ideas to the team.

What we'd like you to demonstrate...

Essential:

  • Experience of building production web applications with Symfony (6.4 or 7.4 LTS), making confident use of its component architecture, service container, autowiring and bundle ecosystem.
  • Previous experience of commercial PHP, with strong working knowledge of 8.x and comfortable with PHP 8.4 features.
  • Comfortable working day to day in Jira and Confluence
  • Well organised, with a consistent focus on delivering high-quality code
  • Basic knowledge of Linux, and familiarity with Nginx or Apache
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how Symfony renders and serves the front end.
  • Ability to lead the development of a project and proactively engage the wider team.
  • Sound knowledge of the front-end fundamentals: Javascript, HTML, CSS and Bootstrap.

Desirable:

  • GIS-related experience
  • An IT or Computer Science degree
  • An interest in clean or hexagonal architecture, Domain-Driven Design or CQRS
  • Experience with Symfony UX, stimulus and Turbo
