About the Role
Winchester City Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Planning Officer to join the Planning Development Management Service. The role involves shaping the historic city, market towns, rural villages and countryside in line with local and national policies and guidance. The Senior Planning Officer will work within the council’s ambitious Local Plan, which prioritises sustainability, climate change mitigation, affordability and nutrient pollution prevention.
Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of planning work, including complex pre-application enquiries, planning applications, post‑decision matters and appeals.
- Occasionally contribute to planning enforcement matters.
- Ensure all planning work complies with current planning legislation and the council’s policies and guidance.
- Develop good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, delivering high‑standard customer service.
- Present relevant information at the Planning Committee and coordinate effectively with committee members.
Qualifications
- Sound knowledge of current planning legislation and experience managing a varied planning caseload.
- Strong written communication skills and evidence of presenting at Planning Committee meetings.
- Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility for membership.
- Full clean driving licence.
