Job Title: Postgre SQL Database Developer / Architect

Employment Type: Contract 12 Months (Renewable) About the Role

We are hiring an experienced Postgre SQL Database Architect for a 12-month renewable contract with an Indian MNC client based in Durban, South Africa. The role demands architect-level expertise in designing, optimising, and managing high-availability Postgre SQL environments. Work permit and relocation support will be provided by the client.

Key Responsibilities Design and own Postgre SQL database architecture for high-volume, high-availability production systems Develop and optimize complex SQL, PL/pg SQL stored procedures, functions, triggers, and queries Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and query optimisation Implement and manage HA/DR solutions, including replication, failover, backups, and Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR) Lead end-to-end database migrations from Oracle / My SQL / SQL Server to Postgre SQL Ensure database security, access control, compliance, and data governance standards Support and manage cloud-hosted Postgre SQL platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level database team members Required Skills & Qualifications 10+ years of hands‑on experience with Postgre SQL (internals, architecture, performance tuning) Advanced SQL and PL/pg SQL development skills Strong experience in replication, backup/restore strategies, and disaster recovery Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments Experience with cloud‑managed Postgre SQL services (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for Postgre SQL, GCP Cloud SQL) Proven experience leading database migrations from Oracle, My SQL, or SQL Server to Postgre SQL B. Tech / B.
