VERDON is an EPC contractor, a key player in the design, construction, and maintenance of industrial installations. For over 45 years, we have combined recognized expertise in structural steel, piping, boiler-making, and welding with the latest digital innovations to support our clients in their most ambitious industrial projects.
Present in Belgium and internationally, VERDON operates on complex projects across the industry, energy, pharmaceutical, and data center sectors. Our ambition is to actively contribute to sustainable reindustrialization by placing People, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence at the heart of our development.
As part of our industrialization strategy and the development of prefabrication and modular construction solutions, we are looking for a Pre-Construction & Constructability Engineer capable of integrating best practices in constructability, modularization, and industrialization from the design phase onward.
Your mission:
As a Pre-Construction & Constructability Engineer, you are the internal reference for all matters related to constructability, industrial prefabrication, modularization, and construction methods.
You are involved from the design, engineering, and tender phases to ensure that projects are designed, fabricated, transported, and installed in an optimal, safe, and competitive manner.
Acting as a key interface between Engineering, Estimation, Procurement, Workshop Production, and Construction teams, you develop strategies to maximize workshop fabrication, pre-assembly, and modular construction in order to reduce on-site hours, improve safety, increase productivity, and optimize project profitability.
Your responsibilities:
Constructability analysis of projects
- Conduct constructability reviews from the earliest project and tender stages.
- Analyze 3D models, BIM mock-ups, and technical documentation.
- Identify fabrication, transportation, and installation constraints.
- Detect critical interfaces and technical inconsistencies.
- Assess execution risks and propose alternatives.
- Verify site access, storage areas, handling equipment, and installation sequences.
- Participate in multidisciplinary technical reviews.
Development of prefabrication and modular construction strategies
- Identify opportunities for pre-assembly and modularization.
- Define fabrication strategies for spools, racks, skids, and modules.
- Optimize system breakdown for fabrication, transport, and lifting.
- Develop a “Design for Construction” and “Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA)” approach.
- Validate logistics and oversized transport constraints.
- Assess potential gains in safety, quality, schedule, and productivity.
- Promote solutions that shift as much work as possible from site to workshop.
Definition of construction methods
- Define optimal installation sequences.
- Determine suitable lifting and handling equipment.
- Identify temporary equipment requirements.
- Analyze co-activity constraints.
- Develop the most efficient installation scenarios.
- Verify feasibility of critical operations.
Support to Tendering & Estimation activities
- Participate in bid reviews.
- Challenge construction assumptions.
- Validate workshop fabrication and site installation hours.
- Identify execution risks and opportunities.
- Define constructability and modularization assumptions for estimators.
- Contribute to the overall project execution strategy.
- Use BIM and 3D tools:
- Analyze 3D models
- Check access and workspaces
- Validate handling zones
- Perform clash detection
- Extract quantities
- Validate prefabrication and storage areas
Continuous improvement
- Capture feedback from construction sites.
- Analyze gaps between forecast and actual performance.
- Develop productivity databases.
- Establish execution method standards.
- Identify and share best practices.
- Set up performance indicators.
Profile sought :
- Master’s degree in industrial or civil engineering.
- Professional English level (minimum B2).
- Proven experience in the execution of complex industrial projects.
- Significant field experience as Construction Manager, Site Manager, Construction Superintendent, Industrial Construction Lead, or equivalent role.
- Mandatory hands-on site experience.
- Experience in demanding industrial environments: process industry, energy, pharmaceuticals, data centers, industrial HVAC, industrial piping, or mechanical installations.
- Proven expertise in modular construction and industrial prefabrication.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and executing projects involving modules, skids, racks, or pre-assembled systems.
- Strong command of modularization strategies to optimize cost, schedule, safety, and quality.
- In-depth knowledge of workshop fabrication, oversized transport, heavy lifting, and module installation constraints.
- Solid understanding of constructability principles and Design for Construction.
- Strong knowledge of DfMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly).
- Ability to use BIM tools and 3D models to optimize project execution.
- Knowledge of software such as Navisworks, Revit, Plant 3D, BIM 360, AutoCAD.
