Role Overview
We are looking for a technically strong Tech Lead Power BI & Data Engineering to lead the development and delivery of enterprise BI and data solutions. The role involves working closely with architects, analysts, product owners, and engineering teams to design scalable solutions, drive technical delivery, and ensure high-quality outcomes across multiple development initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on expertise in Java, Python, Spring Boot, AWS, Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, and modern data architectures, along with the ability to lead a team of developers and analysts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of developers and analysts, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality solutions across sprints and releases.
- Collaborate with architects, analysts, product owners, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Contribute to application-level architecture and drive the design and implementation of effective technical solutions.
- Develop and deliver enterprise-grade applications and BI solutions using modern architecture patterns, APIs, and UI-driven applications.
- Build and deploy cloud-based applications on AWS, including EKS/Kubernetes environments.
- Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, visualisations, and semantic models to support business decision-making.
- Work extensively with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M Language), semantic model development, and custom visuals.
- Design and optimise SQL queries and perform performance tuning, particularly in Snowflake environments and when working with large datasets.
- Implement Power BI reporting standards and best practices to ensure consistency, scalability, usability, and performance.
- Work with Snowflake capabilities such as Snowflake Data Sharing, Snowpipe, and Snowflake Streams.
- Support the integration and embedding of reports within portal environments.
- Implement and support CI/CD practices for BI and data pipelines.
- Troubleshoot complex data, application, and reporting issues and drive effective resolution.
- Ensure software quality through appropriate unit testing, end-to-end testing, automation, and QA readiness.
- Identify and remove technical and delivery blockers, enabling the team to maintain delivery momentum.
- Support the implementation of technology initiatives and contribute to multiple phases of complex projects.
- Develop original and creative approaches to solve technical challenges and improve existing solutions.
- Work effectively within an agile delivery environment, demonstrating strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Navigate complex organisational structures and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Technical Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in Java, Python, and Spring Boot application development.
- Experience building and deploying applications on AWS, with hands-on exposure to EKS/Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns, APIs, and UI-driven applications.
- Conceptual understanding of embedding reports within portal environments.
- Strong hands-on experience as a Power BI Developer, with a portfolio of reports, dashboards, and data visualisations.
- Proficiency in:
- Power BI Desktop
- Power BI Service
- DAX
- Power Query (M Language)
- Semantic model development
- Custom visuals
- Strong experience with SQL and performance tuning, particularly in relation to Snowflake queries and large-scale datasets.
- Strong understanding of Power BI development standards and best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD for BI and data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake-specific capabilities, including Data Sharing, Snowpipe, and Snowflake Streams.
Additional / Preferred Experience
- Experience in Data Engineering, Data Modelling, and Data Analysis.
- Experience with PL/SQL and Informatica ETL.
- Experience working in data warehouse environments with Oracle / Exadata as a source system.
