  • This position may be a caller's very first contact with Onslow County Health Department WIC division therefore must serve as a Customer Service Ambassador by providing excellent customer service to all callers seeking information or a clinic appointment
  • May be able to interpret English-Spanish to clients in the WIC division or calls the WIC Division line
  • Function as primary scheduler for the public seeking WIC appointments with the Health Department by scheduling and confirming client appointments
  • Explain established procedures, respond to inquiries, and provide information to clients.
  • Resolve minor concerns for clients or re-direct clients to the most appropriate OCHD staff member or another organization best suited to address their concern/need
  • Create and maintain records and reports as required
  • Compose, calculate and determine an action regarding compliance with programs
  • Provide coverage at the WIC check-in/registration window
    • Greet patients as they present to the check-in/registration window
    • Check-in patients for services using NC Crossroads
    • Provide information about Health Department Services
  • Answer incoming calls from the WIC line and route callers to the appropriate place, schedule appointments and/or refers callers to appropriate agencies departments/divisions
  • Provide or coordinate interpreter services for eligibility and registration as needed
  • Use variety of automated office systems to establish, retrieve, verify, research, update, and/or authorize processing actions.
  • Conduct intake interviews and route clients appropriately to manage and maintain the efficiency of clinic flow
  • Attend community outreach events and provide in-service training to increase program awareness
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed, or volunteer. Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Moderate knowledge of HIPAA and basic knowledge of medical records management. Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods, and practices. Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports, and other materials. Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics, and their application in the work environment. Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services. Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions, or compliance with applicable laws, rules, or regulations. Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations. Ability to record, compile, summarize, and perform basic analysis of data. Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature. Ability to type at least 45 corrected wpm.
Significant knowledge of Microsoft Office products (specifically Word and Excel).

Supplemental information

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual English-Spanish is preferred.
