Help

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Incumbent provides education to hospital employees and other VA personnel on the system data requirements and use of the data generated. This can be done via Skype, phone, email, one on one or in-service training.
  • The Incumbent will work with VACO, VISN 10, Medical Center Leadership and vendor staff to implement changes based on National and local requirements and maintain the DSS system for VISN 10.
  • Conducts studies based on program goals established by higher levels, current healthcare program business initiatives, pilot project assignments, or other requirements identified by the supervisor.
  • Develops plans to carry out studies and determines which central information data systems to use.
  • Outlines specific items to be included in the study; determines personnel to be interviewed; and identifies the parameters of the study information necessary to prepare reports having sufficient details as to be considered valuable to hospital administrators in the decision-making process.
  • The incumbent supports the VISN MCA team in meeting all MCA national performance measures, medical center and VISN-level goals.
  • Responsible for training new employees and hospital staff on labor mapping, data validation and other MCA related tasks assigned by the MCA Operations Manager.
  • Incumbent analyzes the existing automated and manual systems to determine the type of accounting information available.
  • Prepares and gives oral presentations on the program's objectives and status to Medical Center and VISN10 personnel.
  • Utilizes software packages such as Word, Excel, Access, SQL and communications packages efficiently.

Resource Utilization
  • Supports the development of new databases based on analysis of current databases and applications in order to meet user requirements; improve data collection and management; reduce duplication of effort; and ensure optimum use of automated systems.
  • Responsible for coordination of implementation, maintenance and training on any MCA related tool or system at the medical center.
  • Using Structured Query Language (SQL), develops the databases and tests by ensuring, verifying, and correcting data. Provides training on systems, software, programs, and databases. Researches and resolves problems, determining if hardware, software, or user procedures are the cause and takes corrective action.
  • Maintains and modifies the MCA program in order to reflect any changes in the hospital functions or in the Department of Veterans Affairs automated systems or policy.
  • Audits input data, i.e. source documents, in order to validate the raw data.
  • Analyzes cost and utilization trends to identify problem areas, provide objective assessment and prioritize and recommend appropriate actions and alternatives.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly VISN cost summary reports which are submitted to executive leadership for review and decision support.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with VISN MCA Operations Manager, Directors, Chief of Staffs, Associate Directors, service line executives and other managers at all levels of the VA to support the use of MCA data for decision-making.

Promotion Potential:

The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
