Overview of the Role & Team

This dual‑function role combines EAP instruction with program coordination responsibilities for the Academic Prep Pathway. The successful candidate will deliver English for Academic Purposes courses at all APP levels (Foundation, Development, and Proficiency) on the RDP campus while also serving as the key operational liaison between ILAC and RDP. This is a highly collaborative, student‑centred role requiring both strong classroom practice and administrative judgment.

Responsibilities and Duties

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Deliver in‑person EAP instruction across APP levels, with 20‑22 contact hours per week
  • APP Foundation – academic language foundations
  • APP Development – intermediate academic skills
  • APP Proficiency – advanced college‑readiness preparation
  • Teach integrated academic skills including: academic writing and presentations, research and referencing, lecture comprehension and note‑taking, and understanding of Canadian academic culture
  • Design, select, and administer formative and summative language assessments aligned with RDP course outline standards
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records consistent with RDP’s academic policies
  • Complete student course evaluations in accordance with RDP’s Faculty Performance Policy or approved alternative
  • Participate in curriculum review and contribute to ongoing improvement of APP course materials
  • Support student success through scheduled office hours and proactive academic advising

Program Coordination Responsibilities

As the on‑site coordinator at RDP, this role serves as the primary point of contact between ILAC’s academic team and RDP’s institutional offices.

  • Maintain complete and accurate student records consistent with both ILAC and RDP records management policies
  • Prepare and contribute to ILAC’s annual Pathway performance reports
  • Support scheduling of courses, facilities, and student services resources on the RDP campus
  • Assist with student transition planning from APP into RDP credit programs, including communication with academic advisors
  • Serve as a visible on‑campus resource and ambassador for the program, contributing to student belonging and integration
  • Escalate academic policy issues or student concerns to the appropriate ILAC and RDP contacts in a timely manner
  • Support RDP’s quality audit processes, including routine review of instructional practices, student records, and program data

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred (required for post‑secondary‑level EAP instruction; significant related experience may be considered)
  • T ESL Canada Professional Standard 2 or 3 certification, or equivalent recognized credential (e.g. CELTA)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching EAP or academic English in a post‑secondary setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of English grammatical and phonological systems and ability to teach academic language skills including writing, research, oral communication, and listening
  • Experience designing or adapting curriculum and administering formative and summative language assessments
  • Strong intercultural communication skills and experience working with diverse international student populations
