The Program Coordinator, Training and Development is a member of a team of professionals within the Student Activities Office (SAO) responsible for a variety of training and leadership development initiatives in support of student leaders at the University of Notre Dame, recognizing the importance of both leadership and professional development in student success and community on campus. The Program Coordinator provides direction and assistance to major student organizations such as the First Undergraduate Experience in Leadership and a class council, and is a resource for student leaders in developing leadership and professional skills.

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Training and Development and is a full-time 12-month position with a significant amount of late-night and weekend responsibilities throughout the academic year, as well as some limited evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Student Leadership & Program Development: Develops and facilitates leadership development initiatives (workshops, institutes, retreats, and book clubs), delivers training for club leaders, and leads the annual Student Leadership Awards banquet and the ACC Leadership Symposium delegation. Supports implementation of beginning of school year Division of Student Affairs student leader retreat
  • Student Group & Club Advising: Advises or co-advises specific Student Government groups such as the First Undergraduate Experience in Leadership or a class council on budget management, operations, and leadership continuity, while serving as the primary Activities Liaison for roughly 100 student organizations. Attends meetings and events of advising groups, and meets separately weekly with the leadership of the organizations.
  • Event Planning, Governance & Risk Management: Guides clubs in planning large-scale events, reviews event submissions for departmental approval, acts as a resource for contract and liability/risk matters, and provides on-site supervision as Event Manager during campus events.
  • Student Support & Administration: Maintains visible, drop-in office hours as an approachable campus resource, and collaborates with the broader Student Activities Office (SAO) team on administrative tasks and campus-wide initiatives.

Participates as an integral member of a large, multifaceted Student Development team, interacting regularly with colleagues in the Office of Community Standards, RecSports, University Bands, Family Resource Center, and student media groups.

Serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and regularly collaborates with other areas within Student Affairs (Campus Ministry, Career and Professional Development, Residential Life, Sister Thea Bowman Center, Student Development, and Student Health and Wellness), student clubs and organizations, and other University units to enhance the department's work building connections and relationships with students.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred: Masters Degree. Major in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.

Experience:

  • A successful candidate will have 1 to 2 years of experience with student group advising, college student-aged leadership development, large-scale event planning, and departmental administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and the knowledge of and desire to develop cutting edge leadership programs and initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with a diverse group that includes students, staff, faculty, and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear appreciation of and commitment to the University's Catholic, Holy Cross mission.
