Job Summary:
The Programmer 5 - STARS role involves configuring and enhancing the STARS application to improve tax processing efficiency and accuracy. The position requires analysis, design, coding, testing, and documentation of software components using C#, PostgreSQL, and Visual Studio. The candidate will work with FAST Gentax system technologies and follow established project standards with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Configure and enhance the STARS application based on assignments.
- Analyze, design, code, test, and document software components.
- Develop fixes for production issues following functional and technical standards.
- Implement SQR change requests within the FAST Gentax system.
- Track changes using the Fast Central Repository (FCR) according to project standards.
- Coordinate work with other software developers and participate in code reviews and walkthroughs.
- Execute responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- At least 5 years of programming experience.
- Minimum 2 years experience with FAST ENTERPRISES, LLC technology systems such as Gentax, Fast DS-VS, Fast UI-PL, or Fast CSE (excluding former direct employees of FAST ENTERPRISES).
- Proficiency with C#, PostgreSQL, and Visual Studio.
- Experience with Fast Core components.
- Completion and upload of required State of Maine credentials prior to first day.
- Completion of E-Verify within the first three days of contract.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience working in structured code reviews and walkthroughs.
- Familiarity with project standards for software change tracking and implementation.

- Position is 100% remote, candidates must reside in Eastern or Central time zones.

Scheduling:
- Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
- Contract period from August 24, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
