What you'll do
  • Lead the planning and execution of construction projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Collaborate with architects and designers to interpret project specifications and provide input on design feasibility.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including schedules, budgets, and reports, to track progress and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services necessary for project completion.
  • Assist in the development of project proposals, including cost estimates and resource allocation plans.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and cost overruns.
  • Facilitate communication between project teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
  • Review and approve project change orders and ensure that all modifications are documented and communicated effectively.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and interns, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing insights and recommendations based on engineering principles and project requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve project delivery processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in project engineering or construction management.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar applications.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles related to construction projects.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Nice to have
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or working towards obtaining one.
  • Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role or managing a team.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations in Iowa.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage complex projects effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong negotiation skills to manage contracts and agreements with vendors and subcontractors.

Practical notes

This position is based in Sioux City, Iowa, and may require occasional travel to various job sites throughout the region. The successful candidate will be expected to work full-time hours, with the possibility of overtime during peak project phases.
