Project Manager Tech 1 (Contract) Microsoft Discovery Overview
Microsoft is seeking a Project Manager Tech 1 to support the rapidly growing Microsoft Discovery ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of AI, scientific computing, community engagement, technical enablement, and program operations. The successful candidate will serve as an extension of the Microsoft Discovery team, helping build, maintain, and scale community repositories, scientific assets, customer-facing content, and partner onboarding experiences.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with some of Microsoft's most advanced AI-driven technologies, supporting customers and partners who are leveraging agentic AI, scientific workflows, and emerging discovery platforms to accelerate innovation.

Role Summary
The Project Manager Tech 1 will drive operational excellence across three primary workstreams:
- Community Repository Operations, Growth, and Reporting (50%)
- Customer & Partner Technical Onboarding, Enablement, and Support (40%)
- Technical Content Creation and Customer Education (10%)
This role combines program management, technical coordination, repository administration, content development, and customer support responsibilities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically curious, comfortable working with GitHub and AI technologies, and passionate about enabling scientific and technical communities.
Key Responsibilities Community Repository Operations, Growth & Reporting (50%)
- Manage and maintain customer-facing GitHub repositories and community assets.
- Organize repository structure, content, and governance processes.
- Support onboarding and review of community-contributed content.
- Maintain repository documentation, contribution workflows, and operational standards.
- Track repository health, contribution readiness, and adoption metrics.
- Produce operational reports and performance insights.
- Identify process improvements to increase community engagement and asset discoverability.
- Recommend enhancements to repository governance and contribution experiences.
Scientific Assets & Samples
- Curate scientific workflows, agents, skills, and reusable technical assets.
- Create and maintain starter kits, sample packages, and reference implementations.
- Improve usability, organization, and discoverability of existing scientific content.
- Ensure documentation remains accurate, current, and customer-ready.
- Support validation and publishing of contributed community assets.
Content Creation & Customer Enablement (10%)
- Create blogs, tutorials, videos, technical guides, and onboarding materials.
- Develop customer-facing learning content and technical documentation.
- Translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand educational materials.
- Support workshops, demonstrations, and enablement sessions.
- Contribute to customer and partner success through impactful educational resources.
Customer & Partner Technical Onboarding, Enablement & Support (40%)
- Support onboarding activities for partners adopting Microsoft Discovery.
- Assist with prerequisite reviews, access readiness, environment setup, and onboarding tracking.
- Help validate workflows, agents, skills, datasets, and reusable assets prior to publication.
- Troubleshoot onboarding and integration challenges.
- Coordinate escalations with Microsoft engineering teams and subject matter experts.
- Create onboarding playbooks, troubleshooting guides, known issue documentation, and repeatable onboarding patterns.
- Triage customer and partner questions related to community assets and technical implementation.
- Track recurring issues and identify opportunities to improve onboarding experiences.
Support Operations
- Investigate issues impacting community repositories and contributed assets.
- Coordinate resolution efforts across stakeholders and technical teams.
- Help unblock customer and partner adoption scenarios.
- Monitor customer feedback and recommend operational improvements.
Typical Day in the Role
A typical day will include:

- Reviewing and triaging GitHub issues and pull requests.
- Maintaining repository assets and contribution workflows.
- Supporting community contributors and repository governance activities.
- Analyzing usage metrics, adoption signals, and engagement trends.
- Developing reports and recommending improvements.
40% Customer & Partner Technical Onboarding, Enablement & Support
- Assisting partners with onboarding activities and environment setup.
- Troubleshooting repository integration and technical enablement challenges.
- Coordinating with Microsoft engineering and product SMEs to resolve blockers.
- Validating contributions and technical assets prior to publication.
- Tracking and escalating partner issues.
10% Content Creation
- Creating technical blogs, tutorials, onboarding guides, and documentation.
- Updating learning materials and support content.
- Contributing to workshops, demonstrations, and enablement activities.
Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience managing or supporting GitHub repositories.
- 12+ years of experience working with software engineering practices.
- 12+ years of experience in project/program management, technical coordination, or support operations.
- Basic understanding of AI/LLM technologies and machine learning concepts.
- Familiarity with APIs, MCP (Model Context Protocol), or similar integration technologies.
- Experience working with technical documentation and process management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scientific computing or computational science.
- Exposure to machine learning, simulations, research environments, or scientific software.
- Knowledge of version control systems and GitHub workflows.
- Familiarity with agentic AI concepts and AI-powered developer experiences.
