Senior Backend Engineer - build the systems that power real-time AI at enterprise scale
Are you a backend engineer who's comfortable owning ambiguous problems end-to-end? Have you scaled distributed systems through 10x growth and lived to tell the tale? Do you want to work on AI infrastructure where the stakes are real - Fortune 500 customers, millions of conversations a day, and every percentage point of accuracy matters?
A Series A AI startup, recently funded at a meaningful eight-figure round by some of the most respected names in enterprise tech investing, is hiring senior backend engineers. They're already deeply embedded with Fortune 500 enterprise customers, running real-time AI agents at massive scale across regulated environments where accuracy and compliance matter. Tens of thousands of complex workflows handled every single day, 24/7.
They're past product-market fit, past first customers, past "will this work" - and now scaling fast through the kind of inflection point where what gets built next defines the company.
What you'll do:
The founders:
This is led by founders who've built and shipped at scale before, backed by some of the most operator-friendly investors in the AI ecosystem (the kind whose portfolio reads like a who's-who of enterprise AI). They're past the chaotic early-startup phase - the team is around 40 people, the product is in production at named enterprise customers, and the runway is real. But they're still small enough that what you build genuinely shapes the company.
The role is in-office 5 days a week in their SF Dogpatch office. They value being in the room together - hardworking, builder-energy, willing-to-go-the-extra-mile culture.
