Senior Backend Engineer - build the systems that power real-time AI at enterprise scale

They're already deeply embedded with Fortune 500 enterprise customers, running real-time AI agents at massive scale across regulated environments where accuracy and compliance matter. What you'll do:
- Build infrastructure and systems that power real-time AI agents across data pipelines, analytics, and agent runtime
- Own problems end-to-end: figure out the right approach, build it, iterate based on what you learn. No specs handed down
- Lead concrete initiatives like migrating analytics to ClickHouse to scale through the next 10x of growth
- Push hallucination rates toward zero through better detection systems
- Scale, stabilize, and improve the browser-use agent that connects to customer systems where formal APIs don't exist
- Set the bar for code quality and system design as a senior IC
The founders:
This is led by founders who've built and shipped at scale before, backed by some of the most operator-friendly investors in the AI ecosystem (the kind whose portfolio reads like a who's-who of enterprise AI). They're past the chaotic early-startup phase - the team is around 40 people, the product is in production at named enterprise customers, and the runway is real. But they're still small enough that what you build genuinely shapes the company.
The role is in-office 5 days a week in their SF Dogpatch office. They value being in the room together - hardworking, builder-energy, willing-to-go-the-extra-mile culture.
What they're looking for:
- 4-5 years of backend infrastructure engineering, with strong experience building large-scale distributed systems
- You've shipped systems that scaled through real growth, not just designed them on paper
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure or agent systems is a plus, though strong backend engineers who can ramp on the AI layer will be considered
- Comfortable in Python (Django, FastAPI), TypeScript, AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, Modal
- Sound technical judgement - you make decisions, ship, and own outcomes
