Senior Backend Engineer (Python / Data)
Location: Spain, Remote (flexible across Spain)
Compensation: Up to €65,000 per year
Build data and ML powered backend systems for a major global airline. Design, build and maintain scalable, secure server‑side systems, focusing on microservices, APIs and deploying AI/ML models in production.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs using Python, FastAPI, or Flask.
- Integrate AI and ML models into backend systems and expose them through clean, performant endpoints using REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
- Optimize database queries and schemas (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) for performance and reliability.
- Write unit and integration tests and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Monitor and optimize system performance using observability tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog).
- Manage infrastructure with AWS (including database hosting, API management, serverless), Docker, ECS, and IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Work with message brokers (Kafka, AWS SQS) and serverless/event‑driven paradigms (AWS Lambda).
- Participate in Agile and Scrum ways of working.
- Travel to the client's London office once a month for two to three days.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend development experience, with a strong focus on scalable, high‑performance systems.
- Expertise in Python and building backend services and APIs with FastAPI, Flask or similar.
- In‑depth knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
- Extensive AWS experience, including database hosting, API management, and serverless.
- Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS).
- Proficiency with Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, performance tuning, and scalability techniques.
- Experience with observability tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog).
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with message brokers (Kafka, AWS SQS).
- Experience with serverless and event‑driven paradigms (AWS Lambda).
- Agile and Scrum experience.
- AWS certifications are a plus.
- Right to work in Spain as a full‑time employee; no sponsorship available.
