A builder. We're looking for a Python Software Engineer to help us build backend systems that support our chatbot, ERP and digital services. You'll work on APIs, backend logic and real-world fintech applications that reach thousands.

This is a hands-on, builder's role with space to grow and own core components.

You'll write production Python every day. From day one you'll own concrete features end-to-end, from spec to ship, and gradually take ownership of larger components.

Responsibilities

  • Building Python services that power Asuer Insure, Connect and our chatbot.
  • Writing automated tests and contributing to our testing culture.
  • Reviewing peers' code and learning from theirs.
  • Integrating with third-party APIs (payments, mobile network, KYC providers).
  • Investigating and fixing production issues.
  • Documenting what you build so the team can use it.

Technical skills in:

  • Python 3.10+
  • A web framework (FastAPI, Django or Flask)
  • PostgreSQL or another relational database

Must be able to:

  • Take a feature from spec to ship with limited supervision.
  • Write clear, small pull requests.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in stand-ups.

Knowledge & experience:

  • 2–5 years building production Python systems
  • Familiarity with cloud (AWS or GCP)
  • Comfortable with Linux command line

Prerequisites:

  • South African work authorisation
