We're looking for an experienced Senior Python Software Engineer with a strong background in cloud platforms and platform engineering to join a nationally critical programme supporting the UK's healthcare infrastructure.
You'll be working on a highly available, secure healthcare integration and messaging platform that forms part of the UK's Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). The platform enables the secure exchange of patient and workforce data between healthcare organisations and digital services, helping ensure vital healthcare systems remain resilient, secure and available.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll combine application development with platform engineering practices to build, improve and support a secure, cloud-native environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing high-quality, secure Python applications for complex distributed systems
Maintaining and improving code quality across the platform
Building, managing and monitoring CI/CD pipelines and code quality gates
Ensuring deployments meet technical, security and governance standards
Provisioning and supporting cloud-native infrastructure, primarily within AWS
Collaborating with product teams to help build observable, reliable cloud-native services
Supporting incident investigation and driving continuous platform improvements
Embedding Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) principles throughout the development process
Championing a "shift-left" approach to security through static and dynamic analysis, automation and best practice
Essential Skills & Experience
We're looking for engineers with experience in:
Senior-level Python software development
Developing secure software for complex systems
AWS or other public cloud platforms
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions (or similar)
Observability and monitoring tools
Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) principles
Supporting production environments and incident investigation
Building secure, reliable and scalable cloud-native applications
Desirable Experience
Promoting engineering and platform best practices across teams
Building reusable Infrastructure as Code modules and CI/CD pipelines
Enabling developer productivity through platform engineering
Driving DevOps culture and automation
