Role Overview

A QA Engineer in the Core Services Problem Space within the Technology Department at Cover Genius is the foremost advocate of a quality culture and the primary driver of robust, scalable QA automation practices. In this Senior role, you will set the QA strategy for Core Services, own automation architecture decisions, and mentor other QA/engineers to raise quality standards across squads.

Primary responsibility is to promote an environment where employees follow quality guidelines, consistently see others taking quality‑focused actions, hear others talking about quality, and feel quality all around them.

You will proactively evaluate, pilot, and standardise AI tools, assistants, agent frameworks, and code‑generation tools that improve test depth, speed, and reliability to strengthen delivery of our flagship XCore API platform.

Partner with Engineering Leadership and Product to define measurable quality KPIs (e.g., defect leakage, automation effectiveness, release readiness) and drive continuous improvement. Develop test frameworks and work closely with engineers to implement best testing practices and ensure the QA processes are robust and scalable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the end‑to‑end QA strategy for Core Services, defining standards, quality gates, metrics, and a multi‑quarter automation roadmap.
  • Design, maintain, and extend automated API test suites using Python (PyTest framework), ensuring robust coverage across all critical endpoints, workflows, and integrations.
  • Design, execute, and automate REST API tests using Postman, ensuring coverage of all critical endpoints.
  • Lead AI‑driven QA: accelerate requirements analysis, test design, automation, code review, test‑data generation, and AI tool scouting—while maintaining a prompt playbook and ensuring clear, testable specs with product and engineering.
  • Understand and reinforce the business value of the requirements of the company and the project’s core goals of the products and services we offer.
  • Review developer’s code, requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Define and implement non‑functional testing strategy for APIs (performance, reliability, resilience, security‑smoke), and ensure appropriate coverage and gates.
  • Perform thorough regression testing; identify, record, document thoroughly, and track bugs.

What You Will Bring

  • 4+ years of QA/Test Engineering experience with a strong hands‑on background in API test automation (UI automation experience is not required); ownership of automation strategy and technical leadership across teams.
  • Proficiency in Python with proven experience using the PyTest framework for API test automation (non‑negotiable), including strong CI/CD experience for automated API testing (e.g., test selection, parallelisation, flake management, reporting/metrics).
  • Proven experience in REST API testing (e.g., Postman) with solid understanding of HTTP and client‑server architecture.
  • Hands‑on use of generative‑AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, etc.) for requirements analysis, test design, and automation code.
  • Strong troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills with ability to integrate new AI or testing tools into frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to performance testing and reliability testing for APIs and platform services.

What You Will Have

  • Demonstrated ownership mindset with ability to lead cross‑team initiatives and influence without direct authority.
  • Passionate about Quality Assurance and continuous improvement, with a focus on API automation in Python (PyTest).
  • Enthusiastic about experimenting with and leveraging AI technologies to boost productivity.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle high‑pressure situations.
  • Organised, efficient, and adaptable to both independent and collaborative work.
  • Strong team player with proven experience collaborating across Scrum/Kanban teams.

Benefits

  • Flexible Work Environment – hybrid setup with work‑from‑home on Wednesdays and Thursdays and office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays with flexible start/finish times; additional wellness day per month.
  • Employee Stock Options – share in company success through ownership.
  • Social Initiatives – participate in CG Gives programs, peer recognition, and reward systems supporting philanthropy.
