We are seeking an expert PostgreSQL Consultant to perform a deep review and exploration of Client's RDS PostgreSQL backup and recovery architecture. You will act as the authoritative PostgreSQL subject matter expert, partnering with our engineering team on DB-level and table-level restore strategies, extension compatibility, and platform constraints across cloud managed PostgreSQL offerings. This engagement requires intricate knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, restore workflows, system dependencies and real-world deployment patterns in enterprise environments.
Key Technical Focus:
- PostgreSQL Extensions: Audit how Client's archival pipeline handles common extensions and provide expert guidance on compatibility gaps based on industry-wide usage patterns and known edge cases.
- Granular Restore: Assess and advise on DB-level and table-level restore strategies on AWS RDS, drawing on deep Postgres expertise to identify the most viable approaches within RDS's managed constraints.
- Cloud Managed PostgreSQL Constraints: Identify platform limitations - superuser restrictions, parameter groups, shared_preload_libraries, and extension allowlists - that affect restore fidelity across AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
Who You Are
- The Postgres Expert: You have hands-on experience as a Postgres DBA. You understand MVCC, WAL, logical replication, and extension internals.
- The Cloud Database Practitioner: You understand the nuances of cloud-managed PostgreSQL - what AWS RDS locks down, where the managed layer creates complexity, and how these constraints differ across providers like Azure Database for PostgreSQL and Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
- The Problem Solver: When an extension conflicts or an RDS limitation blocks the obvious path, you have a Plan B within hours, not days.
- The Industry Expert: You bring experience advising on PostgreSQL deployments in mission-critical enterprise environments and can translate that into actionable guidance for Client's engineering team.
