Overview
The Atmospheric Composition group in the Earth Science department at BSC‑CNS seeks a research support engineer to develop, maintain and optimise in‑house emission modelling tools. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with scientists and computational engineers to support model requirement specification, workflow development, operational deployment and dissemination activities.
Key Duties
Contribute to the development and optimisation of emission models in a robust, flexible and computationally efficient manner.
Support the operational implementation of the models.
Work with computational engineers on the technical development and deployment of the model.
Interact with atmospheric composition scientists to understand and respond to their needs.
Assist in dissemination activities, including peer‑reviewed publications, internal and external meetings and conferences.
Help colleagues integrate their own solutions into the set of tools developed by the Earth Sciences Department, ensuring proper documentation and use of GIT for version control.
Requirements
Education
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a related discipline.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
Strong Python programming skills.
Experience with UNIX/Linux environments and scripting languages.
Experience in HPC environments.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Experience with revision control systems such as SVN or Git.
Additional Knowledge and Experience
Experience in similar fields will be valued.
Knowledge of atmospheric science data formats (GRIB, NetCDF).
Competences
Very good interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to take initiative, prioritise and work under set deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Conditions
Location: BSC, Earth Sciences Department.
Full‑time contract (35 h/week), open‑ended duration.
Working environment: state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan.

Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st December as per collective agreement.
