Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer – AI Integrations
Location: Remote (Spain or Portugal based) Type: B2B Contract
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join a growing product team building AI-powered features into a well-established Rails application. You'll work on integrating LLM-driven capabilities, think intelligent search, automated workflows, and AI-assisted user experiences, into a platform used by real customers at scale.
This is a fully remote role open to candidates based in Spain or Portugal, working within a distributed European team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and building new features in a Ruby on Rails codebase, with a strong focus on integrating AI/LLM capabilities (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar APIs)
- Architecting clean, scalable backend services that support AI-driven functionality
- Collaborating closely with product and design to translate AI use cases into shipped features
- Writing well-tested, maintainable Ruby code and contributing to overall code quality
- Working with a modern stack including PostgreSQL, background job processing, and API-first design
- Participating in code reviews, technical planning, and architecture discussions
What We're Looking For
- Strong professional experience with Ruby on Rails in a production environment
- Genuine interest in or hands-on experience with AI/LLM integrations (prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, or similar)
- Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote, distributed team
- Good spoken and written English
- Based in Spain or Portugal (visa sponsorship not available)
Nice to Have
- Experience with React, Stimulus, or Hotwire on the frontend
- Familiarity with vector search tools (Pinecone, pgvector, etc.)
- Previous experience in a SaaS or product-led company
