Title: Salesforce Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Duration: Contract-to-hire (contract through EOY)

Location: 100% remote - Travel to Mendota Heights, MN Occasional Onsite

Must have Azure DevOps experience. Having C# & Python is strongly preferred. Some amount of manual testing will be needed, some automated with Salesforce. Need someone who can hit the ground running & take ownership; someone who is a strong problem solver.

FUNCTION OVERVIEW

  • The Salesforce quality engineering function validates custom and configured Salesforce solutions across RTI Salesforce Clouds, including Sales, Service, Field Service, CPQ, CLM, Marketing, Experience, Data Cloud, Agentforce, integrations, platform automation, and release workflows.
  • This function helps ensure Salesforce changes are reliable, secure, scalable, traceable, and ready for business adoption by validating user stories, automation, integrations, data integrity, role-based behavior, release deployments, and production-critical business processes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The Salesforce Software Development Engineer in Test is responsible for test strategy, test design, test execution, defect management, release validation, and quality improvement across Salesforce platform delivery. This role partners with Salesforce Business Analysts, Administrators, Developers, Architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, business stakeholders, and integration partners to ensure platform changes meet business needs and quality expectations.
  • The ideal candidate brings deep Salesforce testing experience, an understanding of declarative and programmatic Salesforce delivery, strong release and regression discipline, and the ability to validate complex workflows across Salesforce Clouds, integrations, security models, automation, and downstream enterprise systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Common Quality Engineering Responsibilities

  • Own quality engineering activities across the full SDLC, including test strategy, test planning, test case design, test execution, defect management, release validation, production smoke testing, and post-release verification.
  • Develop and maintain clear, repeatable test assets in Azure DevOps Test Plans, including test plans, test suites, reusable test cases, shared steps, test configurations, traceability to user stories and requirements, and documented evidence of execution.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Project Owners, Business Systems Analysts, Engineers, Scrum Masters, Agile Delivery Leads, and business stakeholders to translate requirements and acceptance criteria into risk-based test coverage.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, smoke, exploratory, end-to-end, UAT support, and production validation testing for assigned applications and integrated workflows.
  • Identify, document, triage, prioritize, and retest defects using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools, ensuring clear reproduction steps, expected results, actual results, business impact, screenshots, logs, and evidence are captured.
  • Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, release planning, deployment readiness, cutover preparation, and go/no-go discussions by providing quality status, risk assessments, dependency notes, and defect trends.
  • Collaborate with developers and technical leads to reproduce issues, validate root cause, confirm fixes, strengthen acceptance criteria, and improve testability of new and existing solutions.
  • Design and evolve regression suites that protect critical business flows, high-risk integrations, data movement, role-based workflows, and release-sensitive capabilities.
  • Contribute to automation strategy by identifying high-value automation candidates, partnering with engineers on automated test coverage, and maintaining clear handoff between manual, exploratory, and automated testing.
  • Promote quality standards, documentation discipline, traceability, test data readiness, environment readiness, and continuous improvement across Agile delivery squads.

Salesforce Testing Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain test coverage for Salesforce Clouds, standard and custom objects, record types, profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, validation rules, Flows, Apex, Lightning Web Components, Agentforce, platform APIs, and integration workflows.
  • Validate Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Field Service, CPQ, CLM, Marketing, Experience, Data Cloud, and other platform capabilities as assigned, including both configured and custom functionality.
  • Test Salesforce automation, UI behavior, platform data model changes, role-based access, data quality, API integrations, middleware interactions, and downstream ERP or data platform dependencies.
  • Coordinate test readiness across sandboxes, test data, user roles, release branches, packages or metadata deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and production smoke testing following deployments.
  • Partner with developers, administrators, and architects to reproduce defects, validate Apex and Flow behavior, evaluate release risk, confirm rollback or mitigation plans, and ensure business-critical Salesforce workflows remain stable.
  • Identify automation opportunities for smoke, regression, end-to-end, API, and UI test coverage using approved Salesforce testing tools and CI/CD-enabled quality gates.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

Core Quality Engineering Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • 7+ years of software quality assurance, test engineering, SDET, enterprise application testing, or related IT delivery experience; senior-level experience in complex, integrated environments preferred.
  • Deep proven expertise with Azure DevOps Test Plans, including creating and maintaining test plans, test suites, test cases, test configurations, execution evidence, traceability, and reporting.
  • Strong experience with project and issue tracking tools such as Jira or similar tools, including backlog visibility, defect workflow management, sprint coordination, dashboards, and issue hygiene.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC, STLC, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD, release management, change control, regression planning, UAT coordination, and production validation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, technical designs, interface specifications, data mappings, and release notes.
  • Experience testing APIs, integrations, data movement, role-based security, workflows, batch or scheduled processes, dashboards, reports, and upstream/downstream system dependencies.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to isolate defects, identify patterns, communicate risk, and recommend pragmatic quality improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear test cases, defect reports, quality summaries, release notes, and stakeholder updates.
  • High ownership mindset, attention to detail, curiosity, resilience, accountability, and ability to operate effectively in ambiguity while balancing project delivery and production support priorities.

Role-Specific Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience testing Salesforce platform solutions, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Field Service, CPQ, CLM, Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud, Data Cloud, Agentforce, or related Salesforce products.
  • Deep understanding of Salesforce object model, SOQL concepts, profiles, permission sets, sharing and visibility rules, validation rules, Flows, Apex, LWC, APIs, metadata deployments, sandbox strategy, and release management.
  • Experience testing REST, SOAP, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, middleware integrations such as MuleSoft, Workato, OIC, or similar, and downstream ERP or data platform dependencies.
  • Experience with Salesforce deployment and DevOps tools such as Gearset, Copado, Salesforce CLI, Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, static code analysis, and automated regression tools is preferred.
  • Ability to create test scenarios for role-based access, data visibility, automation side effects, governor-limit-sensitive processes, integration failures, duplicate or missing data, and production smoke validation.
  • Salesforce Administrator, Platform App Builder, Platform Developer, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or related Salesforce certifications are preferred.
