About the role
D-Wave is seeking a Senior Algorithms Developer to design, develop, and optimize advanced algorithms for real-world, high-impact problems. You will work closely with researchers, engineers, and product teams to build high-performance, production-ready algorithmic solutions, including hybrid, classical, and emerging computing approaches. This role blends research thinking with strong software engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize algorithms for complex optimization and machine learning problems
- Write high-quality, well-tested, and well-documented production code
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate ideas into scalable software
- Prototype, evaluate, and improve algorithmic performance through experimentation
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and best-practice initiatives
- Stay current with state-of-the-art algorithmic and optimization techniques
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field
- 5+ years of professional experience developing algorithms and production software
- Strong proficiency in Python; experience with C++ or similar languages is a plus
- Solid background in algorithms, data structures, and computational complexity
- Experience with optimization, machine learning, or numerical methods
- Knowledge of linear algebra, graph theory, or combinatorial optimization
- Ability to read, understand, and implement research papers
- Experience delivering end-to-end software projects, from design to deployment
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Nice to have
- Experience with optimization solvers or ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, NumPy)
- Exposure to hybrid or advanced computing paradigms
- Research or applied R&D background

During the interview process, your recruiter will explain how our rubrics apply across total rewards (base, equity, bonus, perks, benefits, culture). The base salary for this role is targeted between 150,000 - 206,000 CAD per year. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.
The pay range for this role is: 150,000 - 206,000 CAD per year (Burnaby, Canada)
