Global technology & software product company operating in the observability and monitoring space, is looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join their Platform Team in London . You'll help build the distributed services that sit at the core of their product, ingesting and transforming data at scale so it can power a range of analytics and monitoring tools used by customers around the world.
Location: London (Old Street / Shoreditch). Salary: £90K - £110K basic , plus an extensive benefits package. Working arrangement: hybrid, ideally 2 days per week in the office, with flexibility considered.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and build distributed services from the ground up, working with core Java rather than solely relying on heavy framework usage.
- Develop event-driven systems using Kafka and event-streaming frameworks at scale
- Orchestrate deployments on Kubernetes , defining services, deployments and stateful sets
- Tackle hard problems around data consistency and availability, and shape how the platform evolves
- Mentor other engineers while continuing to learn from senior peers across a global team
What you need to bring
- At least 7 years' experience as a backend Java developer, building complex distributed systems
- A deep understanding of core Java, data structures and concurrency, not just framework knowledge
- Hands-on experience with Kafka and event-streaming frameworks such as Flink, Kafka Streams or Spark
- Practical Kubernetes experience, including troubleshooting production issues
- Experience tuning JVM performance - garbage collection, CPU hotspots and heap dump analysis
