Senior Python Engineer

This is a Series A, well-funded Australian technology company building AI-powered solutions that operate at the intersection of computer vision, machine intelligence, and real-world physical environments.

Their products are deployed in some of the most demanding operational conditions imaginable, and they are trusted by major global enterprises to deliver safety, productivity, and performance outcomes that were simply not possible before.

The engineering team is small, senior, and serious. They move fast, they care deeply about what they build, and they are working on problems that have genuine consequence. This is not a CRUD app or another SaaS dashboard. The work is technically hard and the mission is real.

The Role

They are looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join a core product engineering team and take technical leadership across backend systems and platform infrastructure.

You will design and build scalable APIs, work closely with ML and CV engineers to integrate model outputs into production systems, and help define the architecture that underpins the next phase of product growth.

The environment is fast-moving and relatively unstructured, which means you will have genuine influence over technical decisions. You will also be expected to bring ideas, challenge assumptions, and build things that last.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance Python services and backend APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Django
• Architect and optimise data models across relational and non-relational databases, with a focus on query performance at scale
• Build and maintain robust APIs and microservices to support AI and computer vision model outputs across production systems
• Contribute to infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Docker and Linux-based environments
• Collaborate directly with founders, ML engineers, and product managers in a tight-knit team where your decisions are visible
• Help define engineering standards, shape technical roadmaps, and contribute to a culture of craft and accountability

What You Bring

• Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Python with production-grade experience in FastAPI, Django, or equivalent frameworks
• Deep knowledge of database design, SQL and NoSQL systems, and query optimisation under load
• Solid understanding of web service architecture and the principles behind scalable, maintainable API design
• Deep, hands-on experience with Linux and Docker in production environments, not just familiarity
• Strong command of database systems, both SQL and NoSQL, including schema design and performance optimisation at scale
• A track record of technical leadership and delivering working software in small, high-velocity teams

AI and Tooling Proficiency

The following are requirements, not nice-to-haves. Candidates without this experience are unlikely to be a fit:

• Practical, production-level experience with AI tooling including Generative AI frameworks, large language models, or vector database systems
• Familiarity with computer vision systems or real-time inference at the edge
• Background working in deep tech, applied AI, or hardware-adjacent software environments
