Shopify Developer (Web Developer)

Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled Shopify Developer who combines strong technical expertise with a refined eye for design. The

ideal candidate will be responsible for building, customizing, and optimizing our Shopify store to deliver an exceptional user

experience that aligns with our brand’s visual identity and commercial goals.

This role bridges both the back-end functionality and the front-end aesthetics — ensuring that our online store is not only

high-performing but also beautifully designed, intuitive, and consistent across devices.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Technical Development

Build, customise and maintain Shopify Online Store 2.0 themes (sections, JSON templates, theme blocks) to support commercial and merchandising objectives.
Develop and optimise Liquid, JavaScript, HTML and CSS to deliver fast, reliable, and consistent experiences across modern browsers and devices.
Work confidently with Shopify data structures including metafields (and metaobjects where applicable) to support rich content and scalable merchandising.
Implement and maintain integrations via Shopify Admin API (REST/GraphQL), webhooks, and approved middleware -ensuring accurate sync of products, inventory, pricing, orders and customer data with external systems (ERP/CRM/OMS/PIM).
Evaluate, configure and manage third-party apps- troubleshoot app/theme conflicts and recommend consolidation where it improves performance and stability.
Use Shopify CLI and a Git-based workflow for development, deployments, documentation and release/version control.
Proactively monitor and improve performance and technical health, including Core Web Vitals, page speed, structured QA/UAT and technical SEO hygiene.
Diagnose and resolve bugs and production issues efficiently, including root-cause analysis and preventative fixes.

Aesthetics and UX/UI Design

Translate brand guidelines into an engaging and visually cohesive online store experience.
Collaborate with designers to refine layouts, typography, and imagery for clarity and impact.
Enhance product pages, navigation, and checkout flow to improve user journey and conversion.
Apply responsive design principles to ensure optimal presentation across all devices.
Use A/B testing and analytics to identify opportunities for visual and UX improvements

Collaboration and Strategy

Work closely with the marketing and e-commerce teams to implement campaigns, landing pages, and product launches.
Provide input on design and UX trends to maintain a modern, premium look and feel.
Ensure brand consistency across all digital touchpoints.
Maintain version control and documentation for all updates and deployments.

Qualifications and Experience

Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent
Qualification in Web Development, Computer Science, Graphic Design, or a related field.
2–4 years’ Experience as a Shopify Developer (agency or in-house).
Proven portfolio of visually appealing and high-performing stores.
