Join the External Tokenization team within Global Payments Tech (GPTech), where we're securing every transaction across Amazon's global ecosystem. We enable Amazon's payment success by providing platforms for network tokenization, real‑time card lifecycle management, and issuer data enrichment. Our technology spans large‑scale distributed systems integrating with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover to replace sensitive card data with secure network tokens and dynamic cryptograms. We also enable Agentic Payments through tokenization.

Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate with experienced cross‑disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
- Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
- Create solutions to run predictions on distributed systems with exposure to innovative technologies at incredible scale and speed.
- Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault‑tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
- Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
- Work in an agile environment to deliver high‑quality software.
A day in the life
You will design, build, and improve backend services for Amazon's payment methods platform. Working with engineers and product partners, you'll write code, review designs, and evolve plugin‑based workflows that enable consistent payment experiences across Amazon businesses.
You'll participate in design and code reviews, refine system architecture with senior engineer guidance, and join operational rotations to monitor service health and resolve production issues. Your work will support services managing hundreds of payment methods and millions of daily customer interactions, enabling Amazon to launch new payment capabilities.
About the team
The External Tokenization team facilitates secure payment processing worldwide. We manage the complete token lifecycle – provisioning, cryptogram generation, and real‑time card updates. Our platform provides network tokens, card art, and issuer metadata to Amazon's wallet, directly improving purchase success and customer trust at checkout. The Global Payments Tech processes millions of transactions every day across numerous countries and payment methods, serving over 100 million customers and merchants and moving tens of billions of dollars at light speed annually.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
