Job Summary:

The Senior Software Developer - API role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices primarily using Java and Spring Boot. The position requires extensive experience with integration patterns, microservice architecture, Azure services, and secure authentication mechanisms. The developer will work onsite, collaborating with teams to deliver robust API solutions, mentor junior developers, and support production environments including on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Create detailed design and specification documents for RESTful APIs including endpoints, authentication, and error handling.
  • Develop clean, scalable, and secure REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot following best practices.
  • Design and deploy modular, decoupled microservices with clear inter-service communication protocols.
  • Transform and route data through APIs based on business requirements.
  • Write comprehensive unit and integration tests using tools like JUnit and Mockito to ensure code reliability.
  • Design and optimize relational database schemas to support API data storage and retrieval.
  • Profile and optimize APIs for performance including response time, memory usage, and throughput.
  • Implement secure API calls with OAuth2, JWT, SAML, input validation, and OWASP security standards.
  • Containerize applications using Docker, Docker Compose, and Kubernetes manifests for deployment.
  • Integrate monitoring and logging solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Splunk for operational visibility.
  • Produce clear technical documentation including design, deployment, and operational guides.
  • Conduct regular code reviews and mentor junior developers to maintain code quality and share knowledge.
  • Provide weekly or sprint-based status updates on development progress and blockers.
  • Resolve production issues promptly, including regression fixes and performance improvements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for weekend production support and troubleshooting (24/7 support).
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs with documentation and testing.
  • Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Integration.
  • In-depth knowledge of microservice architecture and building scalable, highly available systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Services including messaging queues, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous communication.
  • Proficient in SQL and experienced with relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, SAML, and related authentication/authorization technologies.
  • Experience with data transformation techniques (mapping, normalization) and working with JSON, XML, CSV.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Strong skills in writing automated tests including unit and API tests.
  • Experience implementing security best practices including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with enterprise integration technologies such as JMS, AMQP, Azure Service Bus.
  • Knowledge of XML-based integration solutions like XSLT and XPath.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Logstash, or Splunk.
  • Experience working in Government or Public Sector organizations.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for complex systems.
  • Ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to architectural decisions.
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry trends and technologies.
Special Considerations:
  • Position requires onsite work with a 7.25-hour workday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
  • Availability for on-call support during weekends for production issues, including 24/7 troubleshooting.
  • Must adhere to security clearance and contract compliance timelines.
  • Work involves participation in knowledge transfer and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Scheduling:
  • Standard onsite schedule: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day within 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM excluding breaks.
  • On-call rotation for weekend production support as required.
