Software Developer - Computer Vision & Machine Learning (TSPV Required)

Security Clearance Required

Current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance, or previously held TSPV within the last 12 months (subsequently downgraded). Candidates will be required to provide their CSID. A current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) is preferred but not essential.

Job Description

Cleared is seeking a highly capable Software Developer with strong software engineering expertise and a demonstrated ability to work effectively within integrated technical and non-technical teams. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, development and integration of Computer Vision (CV) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities in a highly specialised environment. You will work closely with data scientists and domain specialists to build scalable software solutions, integrate analytical models, and support the delivery of intelligence-driven outcomes. Success in this role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, collaborative problem solving, and the ability to deliver robust, production-ready solutions. This position is suited to professionals operating at an APS6 equivalent level who enjoy solving complex challenges and building technology with real‑world impact.

Contract Details

  • Estimated start date: 20 July 2026
  • Initial contract: 12 months
  • Extension options: 2 x 12-month extensions available
  • Standard hours: 37.5 hours per week

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software solutions across multiple programming languages and development environments
  • Support the design, development and integration of Computer Vision and Machine Learning capabilities
  • Collaborate with data scientists to develop and operationalise CV models
  • Participate in data collection, preparation and model development activities
  • Deliver high‑quality analytical outcomes with a strong focus on usability and user experience
  • Apply and contribute to software engineering standards, practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Engage with subject matter experts to understand intelligence challenges and incorporate feedback into delivered solutions
  • Produce and maintain documentation aligned with relevant governance and policy requirements
  • Communicate technical solutions and outcomes to internal teams, stakeholders and partners
  • Contribute as a collaborative member of a small, high-performing multidisciplinary team

Education / Certifications Required

  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline are desirable
  • Relevant industry certifications in software development, machine learning, cloud technologies or analytics are advantageous
  • Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not mandatory

Essential criteria

  1. Proven experience in software development, with knowledge and experience of Python.
  2. Demonstrated high‑level interpersonal skills to communicate results appropriately for a range of audiences.
  3. Extensive experience working collaboratively in a team with multi‑disciplinary experts and solving real problems.

Desirable criteria

  1. Awareness of intelligence analysis problems and specifically overhead imagery data.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge in the application and integration of machine learning approaches.
