Profectus is seeking an experienced Software Developer to support the delivery and sustainment of secure ICT capability within Defence. This role suits a developer who is comfortable operating in complex, highly governed environments where quality, reliability, and compliance are essential. You will develop and maintain custom applications that support critical simulation and training capability, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions that are operationally ready, supportable, and built to demanding standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain custom applications across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and documentation
- Complete and deliver software repositories that meet specified functional and performance requirements
- Tailor existing software applications to meet full functional and performance specifications
- Ensure compatibility with Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system architectures
- Participate in system rollout, verification, and validation activities
- Contribute to post-rollout optimisation and continuous improvement
- Prepare detailed technical documentation to support formal system accreditation as a key contract deliverable
- Work independently with minimal supervision while adhering to project deadlines and quality expectations
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver compliant and resilient solutions
Required Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end software development, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and documentation
- Strong proficiency in one or more of the following languages or frameworks: Python, C++, or C#
- Familiarity with software repositories such as Git
- Experience working across both Windows and Red Hat Linux environments
- Proven ability to work independently and deliver quality outputs with minimal supervision
- Experience producing technical documentation for formal accreditation or regulatory approval
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with Defence accreditation processes
- Experience with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD environments
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and software hardening
- Background in systems requiring compliance, audit, or formal validation
Security Clearance
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Must hold an active AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance
Working Arrangements
- Onsite in Canberra
- No remote working arrangements available
- Some domestic travel may be required
