Software Development Engineer, Amazon Redshift Query Optimizer

Amazon Redshift is a fully managed cloud data warehouse that powers analytical workloads for enterprise customers. The query optimization team builds the parallel‑aware optimizer responsible for generating efficient execution plans on the Redshift MPP engine.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Build systems that benefit Redshift clusters worldwide, delivering new features and architecture.
- Distill complex and ambiguous requirements into meaningful projects that provide substantial customer value.
- Own end‑to‑end deliverables from design, development, deployment, monitoring, and operations.
- Lead engineers on projects, mentor, and help grow the team through hiring.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) for new or existing systems.
- 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
- 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- 1+ year of Object Oriented Design experience.
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $165,200.00 to $223,600.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
