Software Development Engineer in Test III
Location: Onsite in Cupertino, CA 95014
Employment Type: 12-month W2 contract, with potential extension based on performance
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $52-$59/hour, depending on experience
Russell Tobin is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test III to support one of our leading technology clients. This is an onsite contract opportunity for an experienced individual contributor with strong Java or Kotlin coding skills and a background in API test automation.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on industry experience, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Create new tests to verify APIs built by third-party partners and ensure correct implementation of digital payment features
- Define test coverage for new features
- Create, maintain, and improve automated server-side test cases
- Report test results and communicate quality status clearly
- Contribute to the design and development of internal testing tools
- Prioritize, schedule, and communicate the status of assigned work
- Investigate and resolve highly technical issues within complex systems
- Triage automation failures and drive issues to quick resolution
- Communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences
- Apply strong organizational skills to support both independent and team-based work
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on industry experience as an individual contributor
- Strong proficiency coding in Java and/or Kotlin
- Experience developing API tests using automated testing frameworks, especially REST-based APIs
- Experience troubleshooting automated test failures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Critical thinking skills with a strong testability mindset
- Ability to apply creativity and analytical thinking to test case design and robust automation development
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Good understanding of CI/CD principles
- Experience designing testing strategies for cloud applications
- Experience with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or related tools
- Familiarity with AI/ML solutions
