Senior Software Engineer - Developer Services

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Developer Services team, supporting T. Rowe Price's generative AI initiatives and foundational development capabilities. In this role, you'll design, implement, and support the critical tools and infrastructure that enable our company's development of innovative generative AI-based systems. Working primarily in AWS, you'll architect internal systems, services, and automation while contributing your expertise to drive technical excellence across our generative AI engineering efforts, while supporting developer operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect internal tools, services, and automation solutions using Python to support enterprise-scale generative AI capabilities

  • Architect and implement cloud infrastructure using Terraform, establishing Infrastructure as Code best practices, reusable modules, and governance patterns

  • Design and develop sophisticated microservices using Python and Java within complex distributed, event-driven architectures

  • Architect scalable solutions leveraging AWS services including IAM, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, S3, and DynamoDB with a focus on reliability and performance

  • Design REST APIs and event-driven integrations, establishing patterns and standards for platform services

  • Architect containerized applications using Docker and implement robust CI/CD pipeline practices

  • Design and maintain internal frameworks, SDKs, and tooling that enable development teams across the organization

  • Establish comprehensive logging, monitoring, and observability strategies to ensure platform reliability and performance

  • Drive code quality through architectural review and establishing testing strategies

  • Design configuration-driven systems using JSON/YAML schemas and validation frameworks

  • Troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues and provide technical expertise

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define integration strategies with enterprise systems

  • Stay current with emerging agent frameworks, LLM technologies, and automation patterns, evaluating their applicability to platform needs

  • Share knowledge and provide guidance to team members

Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 5+ years of total relevant work experience

  • Solid working knowledge of Java or Python for service integrations and microservices development

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (IAM, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, S3, DynamoDB) and cloud architecture patterns

  • Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architecture, REST APIs, and event-driven systems

  • Strong experience with Git workflows, branch strategies, and designing CI/CD pipelines

  • Expertise in Docker and containerized development workflows

  • Deep understanding of OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and enterprise identity systems such as ADFS

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement authentication/authorization workflows including token validation and identity federation

  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in complex distributed systems environments

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences

  • Track record of building internal developer platforms, frameworks, or enablement tools

Preferred:

  • Experience with emerging LLM frameworks, agent-based systems, or AI/ML platform engineering

  • Experience with Terraform including module development, IaC patterns, and cloud provisioning strategies

  • Strong proficiency in Python for building enterprise-scale services, tools, and automation

  • Design authentication and authorization solutions using OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and enterprise identity systems (ADFS), including token validation and identity federation

  • Background in platform engineering or developer enablement roles

  • Experience establishing observability practices and implementing monitoring solutions at scale

  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native applications and AI systems

  • Experience with multiple cloud providers or hybrid cloud architectures

  • Contributions to open-source projects or internal tooling communities

  • Experience collaborating on technical initiatives and sharing expertise with team members
