Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack - Java, React)
About the Role
The AI & Decision Engineering Platform powers intelligent, real‑time decisioning for Mastercard’s fraud prevention and identity validation solutions. This program enables streaming analytics, governed decision‑making, and outcome management with business agility at global scale. Our platform leverages business rules engines, AI‑driven decisioning, streaming big data clusters, in‑memory data grids, APIs, and intuitive UIs to deliver decisions in milliseconds across billions of transactions worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing high-performance, cloud‑ready solutions. You’ll mentor team members while remaining hands‑on with coding, testing, and design—helping shape the next generation of Mastercard’s decisioning capabilities. This is a hybrid position based in Vancouver, requiring three days on‑site per week.
Responsibilities
- Own software delivery tasks (design, development, test, deployment, support, documentation, configuration) at an application/software component level.
- Full stack developer that can code front end and REST API/backend applications.
- Participate in all the scrum ceremonies using SAFe Agile methodology.
- Drive code/design/process trade‑off discussions within the team when required.
- Drive adoption of engineering principles, technology standards and best practice, and review coding, test, and automation work of team members.
- Develop complete understanding of end‑to‑end technical architecture and dependency systems.
- Mentor and guide new and less‑experienced team members.
- Write code to do unit testing, mutation testing, integration testing, functional and regression testing.
- Provide support by troubleshooting production incidents and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Share and seek knowledge within the Guild/Program to drive reuse of patterns/libraries/practices and enhance productivity.
All About You
- Experienced developer with ability to write secure code in three or more languages (e.g. Java, React, SQL) and familiar with secure coding standards (e.g., OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT) and vulnerability management.
- Excellent knowledge of Spring and other frameworks.
- Understands the use of GoF design patterns to implement efficient code.
- Familiar with different application patterns to implement different types of business processes (e.g., APIs, event‑driven services, batch services, web applications, big data).
- Understands and implements API, gRPC standards and cataloging to drive API/service adoption and commercialization.
- Applies tools (e.g., Sonar, Zally, GitHub Advanced Security, Checkmarx) and techniques to scan and measure code quality and anti‑patterns as part of development activity.
- Has skills to elaborate, estimate, and implement non‑functional requirements, including security (e.g., data protection, authentication, authorization), regulatory, and performance (SLAs, throughput, transactions per second).
- Has skills to orchestrate release workflows and pipelines and apply standardized pipelines via APIs to achieve CI and CD using industry standard tools (e.g., Jenkins).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Excellent at problem‑solving with creative troubleshooting skills.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks within the constraints and timelines determined by business needs.
- Passionate about continuous improvement and delivering results.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Druid, Grafana, Superset.
- Experience in performance testing using JMeter/Blazemeter and developing cloud native apps using Docker, Kubernetes, AWS.
- Experience using Redis, Kafka.

Vancouver, Canada: $111,000 - $160,000 CAD
