Senior Software Engineer (Java, Distributed Systems, AI) – Travel – Amsterdam
Hourly rate: €100 - €130
Duration: 6 months
Hybrid: 2 days per week

My new client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable, high-quality systems using Java and modern cloud-native technologies. You’ll own services end-to-end, contribute to architectural decisions, and help bring innovative solutions including AI-driven capabilities from idea to production
.
What You’ll Do:
- Build and maintain high-performance Java applications and distributed systems.
- Design and implement scalable microservices and API
- Own services in production, ensuring reliability, observability, and performanc
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes to deploy and operate cloud-native system
- Develop and optimise workflows, automation, and pipeline
- Lead and contribute to technical design and engineering best practice
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across product and engineering team
- Experiment with and implement AI/ML solutions, taking them from prototype to production.
Must-Have Experience
- Strong Java development experience (8+ years) in production environments
- Proven experience building and running distributed systems / microservices architectures
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms
- Strong understanding of system design, testing, and API development
Must have requirements:
- AI in Practice – You’ve built AI/ML experiments in a company setting and successfully taken them into production.
- Java Distributed Systems Expertise – You deeply understand scalable, resilient system design using Java.
- End-to-End Ownership – You’ve owned real production systems, including code, workflows, deployment, and operations.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks or integrations (e.g. LLMs, data pipelines)
- Exposure to CI/CD, observability tools, and DevOps practices
- Experience mentoring engineers
