DTCC offers a flexible/hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a third day unique to each team or employee).
The Impact you will have in this role:
The Development family is responsible for creating, designing, deploying, and supporting applications, programs, and software solutions. May include research, new development, prototyping, modification, reuse, re-engineering, maintenance, or any other activities related to software products used internally or externally on product platforms supported by the firm. The software development process requires in-depth subject matter expertise in existing and emerging development methodologies, tools, and programming languages. Software Developers work closely with business partners and / or external clients in defining requirements and implementing solutions.
The Software Engineering role specializes in planning, documenting technical requirements, designing, developing, and testing all software systems and applications for the firm. Works closely with architects, product managers, project management, and end-users in the development and enhancement of existing software systems and applications, proposing and recommending solutions that solve complex business problems.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java, AWS, OpenShift, Kafka, Oracle, and DB2, combined with a strong automation-first mindset and hands-on experience building automated testing solutions and quality engineering frameworks. You will partner closely with team leads, product owners, architects, and engineering leadership to deliver high-quality solutions aligned to business priorities and DTCC's long-term technology strategy.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and high-performance software applications.
Lead hands-on development using Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, and microservices architectures.
Design and build reusable frameworks that promote modularity, extensibility, maintainability, and resiliency.
Modernize applications by migrating complex business logic from database stored procedures into Java-based services.
Develop and support cloud-native applications leveraging AWS and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka and messaging technologies.
Build, optimize, and support REST and SOAP APIs with a focus on scalability, performance, and reliability.
Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites for APIs, microservices, and backend applications.
Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD), shift-left testing, and automation-first engineering practices.
Ensure appropriate unit, integration, functional, regression, and end-to-end test coverage.
Integrate automated testing, quality gates, and validation processes into CI/CD pipelines.
Optimize application performance, data access, and scalability across Oracle, DB2, and PostgreSQL databases.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues and deliver high-quality solutions.
Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence, quality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
6-8+ years of experience in backend and database-driven application development.
Talents Needed for Success:
Expert-level hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and modern backend development practices.
Strong experience with Spring, Spring Boot, RESTful services, and microservices architectures.
Hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications using AWS services.
Experience working with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), containers, and cloud deployment architectures.
Strong experience with relational databases including Oracle, DB2, and PostgreSQL.
Experience with Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka, including event-driven architectures, Kafka Connect, KStreams, and related tooling.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, messaging patterns, and asynchronous processing.
Proven ability to write high-quality, testable code using unit testing frameworks and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks for APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
Experience with automated testing tools such as JUnit, Mockito, REST Assured, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks.
Strong understanding of unit, integration, functional, regression, and end-to-end testing strategies.
Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
Working knowledge of Angular or React for front-end integration.
Experience working in Agile environments with strong collaboration skills.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
Willingness to coach and mentor other engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, build automation, and quality engineering practices.
Familiarity with Jenkins, CloudBees, Git, SonarQube, and related DevOps tooling.
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise systems and cloud modernization initiatives.
Experience implementing shift-left testing and continuous quality practices.
Familiarity with performance, load, resiliency, and API testing methodologies.
Java or AWS certifications preferred but not required.
