Tasks:

  • Architecture & Development : Design and implementation of highly available, modular backend systems based on modern enterprise Java standards (Jakarta EE / MicroProfile) for the secure handling of insurance and billing processes. You consistently rely on future‑proof patterns such as onion or hexagonal architectures to ensure a strict separation of core logic and infrastructure.
  • Legacy Modernization : Responsibility for the gradual reimplementation of historically grown core applications into modern, sustainable software structures. You will design error‑prevention‑based architectures that guarantee maximum data consistency and fault tolerance through established resilience strategies (such as automated safeguards, isolation patterns, and strict validation chains).
  • Proactive Operation & Observability : Responsibility for the stable operation of the reimplemented applications according to the DevOps principle. You design and establish automated monitoring, logging, and tracing structures to detect deviations in system behavior early, proactively isolate bottlenecks (e.g., in the processing of large amounts of data), and guarantee complete auditability.

Requirements:

  • Expert (5+ years) : In‑depth experience in professional software development with Java (17+) and profound knowledge of the enterprise environment using standard frameworks (Jakarta EE and Eclipse MicroProfile).
  • Architecture professional : Sound practical knowledge in the implementation of decoupled software architectures – especially hexagonal architecture (ports and adapters) and clean architecture to ensure the long‑term maintainability of the source code.
  • Resilience & Failure Prevention Expert : Deep understanding of the design of fault‑tolerant systems. You are proficient in common resilience strategies (fail‑safe, fallback mechanisms, rate limitation) as well as strict input validations (design by contract) to proactively prevent system malfunctions.
  • Professional interest in health insurance : You have a strong interest in the professional context of Swiss health insurance (e.g., claims processing, tariff models, legal framework) and are willing to familiarize yourself with the field of health insurance in order to closely align technical solutions with professional requirements.
  • Legacy Transformation : Proven experience in migrating and gradually refactoring monolithic systems into modern, modular Java architectures.
  • Expert in On‑Premise Observability : In‑depth understanding of the setup and operation of central monitoring and logging stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Loki or ELK) for monitoring complex Java runtimes within Kubernetes environments.
  • Distributed Tracing & Fault Analysis : Practical experience with distributed tracing (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Jaeger) to make call chains transparent across reimplemented systems and remaining legacy infrastructures and to precisely isolate the causes of errors.
  • Resource & Performance Management : Sound knowledge in the analysis and optimization of the runtime behavior of Java applications (e.g., heap analysis, thread dumps, garbage collection tuning) under the restrictive conditions of physically capped, local hardware resources.
  • very good German skills, both spoken and written
