The Role
As a Java Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of a motorway signage system that delivers real-time traffic information to drivers. The platform provides live traffic updates, weather warnings, and rerouting instructions to support safer and more efficient travel.
In this role, you will work on introducing a new capability that enables the simultaneous control of multiple signs within a designated area, improving how traffic events and changing road conditions are managed across the network.
Please note: this role is open only to candidates who speak Hungarian.
What you will do
Create advanced, secure software solutions while improving engineering practices
Take ownership of full-cycle feature development and oversee release impacts and SLOs, ensuring solutions adhere to our engineering principles (Simplicity, Speed, Stability, Scalability, Security)
Actively participate in the specification review processes
Work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and data analysts to enhance team and departmental processes
Contribute to shaping the technology roadmap, tech radar, and collective initiatives
Learn about new technologies and actively share your knowledge with other members of your team
Requirements
Practical experience in Java (JDK8), with a strong understanding of object-oriented principles and design patterns
Hands-on experience with build automation using Maven for efficient project management and deployment
Solid knowledge of relational databases, with expertise in PL/SQL (MySQL, SQL Server, Firebird)
Understanding of messaging systems such as ActiveMQ; knowledge of alternatives like RabbitMQ is advantageous
Experience in designing and consuming web services (SOAP and REST) for seamless system integration
Competency with Docker for containerisation, improving development workflow and deployment scalability
Ability to prioritise flexibility and learning
Proactive, solution-oriented approach with an innovative mindset to identify efficient solutions
Strong organisational skills for managing tasks and responsibilities independently
Excitement about collaborating within a diverse team, valuing individuals from different backgrounds and experiences, and making meaningful contributions towards shared objectives
Proficiency in the English language
