Java Engineer
Location: UK-based, hybrid, Manchester 1 x per week

Role Summary
Amber Labs is seeking a talented Java Engineer to support the delivery of a high profile digital programme within a large scale government environment. This role sits within an established multidisciplinary agile team and will play a key role in building robust, scalable backend services that support critical user facing platforms.
Working closely with Business Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers, and fellow Developers, you will contribute across the full development life cycle, delivering high quality solutions with a strong emphasis on engineering excellence from the outset.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and maintain microservices architectures supporting complex digital systems.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA/Testers, and other developers within a large squad structure to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Build and optimise RESTful APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Contribute to database design and development using PostgreSQL and SQL.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards.
- Support CI/CD processes and deployment practices in collaboration with DevOps teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and defects.
- Contribute to technical documentation and maintain clear development artefacts.s.
- Strong experience developing backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience building microservices-based architectures.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL and SQL.
- Experience working in agile delivery environments within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience integrating into established teams and quickly becoming productive.
- Experience or awareness of templating frameworks such as Nunjucks is beneficial.
