Cover Genius is a Series E insurtech that protects the global customers of the world’s largest digital companies, including Booking Holdings (Priceline, Kayak, Booking.com), Intuit, Uber, Hopper, Ryanair, Turkish Airlines, Descartes ShipRush, Zip, and SeatGeek. We are also available through Amazon, Flipkart, eBay, Wayfair, and Southeast Asia’s largest company, Shopee. Our partners integrate with XCover, our award‑winning insurance distribution platform, to embed protection for millions of customers worldwide each year.
About The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Personalisation team, you will own the design, development, and operation of our pricing optimisation and experimentation platform (BrightWrite). BrightWrite powers dynamic pricing, A/B experimentation, and plan recommendation for XCover and RentalCover, serving millions of pricing requests per day at low latency, both as an embedded Python package and as a standalone API service.
You will lead the end‑to‑end delivery of platform features—from the experimentation engine and the pricing‑expression language, through to event‑tracking pipelines and the analytics that Data Scientists and pricing analysts rely on. Because BrightWrite sits directly in the insurance quote path, your work has an immediate, measurable impact on conversion and margin across every partner.
Key Responsibilities
- Pricing platform development: design, build, and maintain the core BrightWrite pricing services, pricing calculation, experiment platform, and ML infrastructure integration, keeping them fast, correct, and safe at scale.
- Experimentation framework: evolve the A/B testing framework so internal stakeholders can run reliable, revenue‑safe pricing experiments with confidence.
- Personalisation and offer optimisation: build the personalisation capabilities that tailor what each customer sees, and build the data to serve the right product at the right price for every partner and customer segment.
- System reliability and observability: design robust monitoring, alerting, and graceful‑degradation behaviour to protect partner sales; proactively identify, debug, and resolve production issues.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: work closely with Data Science, the XCore, and RentalCover teams to ship integrations, enforce pricing guardrails, and turn experiment data (Pub/Sub events, BigQuery) into decisions.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, coupled with 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building highly scalable, data‑intensive backend systems in Python.
- Proven experience designing and operating low‑latency, high‑throughput services in the critical path of revenue—including API design, caching/CDN‑backed configuration delivery, and performance optimisation.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles with a demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain clean, testable Python services and internal libraries consumed by other teams.
- Experience with experimentation or A/B testing systems.
- Hands‑on experience with production operations: Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability and monitoring tooling, and incident response for business‑critical services.
- Comfort working with data pipelines and warehouses (e.g., Pub/Sub event streams, BigQuery) to instrument features and validate outcomes.
- Nice to have: experience building parsers, interpreters, or domain‑specific languages in Python and familiarity with applying LLM‑assisted tooling to internal workflows.
What You Will Have
- Ownership mindset with the ability to lead ambiguous, cross‑functional initiatives to measurable outcomes.
- Self‑motivated and continuously studying new practices and tooling in data engineering.
- Preference for simple, robust engineering over hype—critically evaluating new tools and techniques to choose what works.
- A natural mentor and collaborator who can clearly articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, data scientists, and non‑technical stakeholders alike.
- Embodies CG values—bold experimentation, purposeful innovation, and authentic collaboration across diverse, global teams.
